How did this angle begin?....Was SMW the first one to throw the first punch or was it USWA?

Hmm....I think it started with the RNR Express turning heel in a match against PG-13 or something like that. The feud was started by SMW, as they were the heels, and the feud almost exclusively played out in the USWA.

If It was done earlier,SMW would of made tons of money and probaly would of been able to hold on longer from going under.

Then I wish they would have done it early then becasue I loved SMW I can remeber as a youngster siting in the Pikeville College gym and watching the frst Bluegras Brawl I still have the program from the event and watching the chain match between DWB and Tracy Smothers and watching Arn Anderson in the ring battling Bobby Eaton ah what memories of in my opinion the best fed of all time better than either of the "Big Two" SMW was the best of all time

I saw the SMW-USWA feud coming a mile away since both were Tennessee based. But I would've been more interested in seeing a feud between SMW and ECW due to the history and backstage heat between Jim Cornette and Paul Heyman.
It would've been great to see two managers and promoters with similar backgronds and similar passions for this business, yet are so different in style and technique clash in the greatest interpromotional war of all time.
It would've been The Civil War of Wrestling that would've involved an uptight lunatic yuppie as our Ulysses S. Grant and an ultra hyper tennis enthusiast as our Robert E. Lee, and a rebel's love for the past of traditional wrestling pitted against a yankee's hardcore vision for wrestling's future. And in the long run it would've benefitted both SMW and ECW, SMW would've been a strong dose of the old school for the big mainstream urban markets like Los Angeles and New York while ECW would've been a strong dose of the new wave for the small traditional rural markets in Middle America.

But, ECW vs. SMW was never gonna happen--they were too far apart geographically, whereas Memphis & Smoky Mtn. (mainly in east Tenn.) made a natural west Tenn. vs. east Tenn.rivalry. Yeah--too bad they didn't do that feud earlier, & for longer. The SMW guys (especially the R N' R Express, Bob Armstrong, & Tracy Smothers) were great heels over in Memphis & Louisville (& SMW ref Brian Hildebrand was a great heel over there, also!).

Why Bob Armstrong wasn't a heel for more of his career is a mystery to me. Honestly, he was probably the best heel the USWA had in the 90's. Brian Hildebrand wasn't far behind him.

If it happened earlier, how would it have benefitted both SMW *and* USWA in the long run?

It would of helped draw more fans (for both areas), meaning drawing more $$$. But, the feud drew better over in the Memphis-Louisville area than it did in SMW. But, both areas had their own regular schedules to run, so it was hard to do the crossover for very long.

i'm from the tenn. arkansas area and this started because thr r-n-r express thought they were cheated by a tenn. referee. pg-13 won the match and the r-n-r express attacked them after the match. this really started the fued that saw everyone from jeff jarrett to jesse james armstrong fighting for the power over both companies
