In my brief time living in this territory (1977-80), I recall two state championships being mentioned on TV: Arkansas (Ray Candy held it the times it was mentioned) and Mississippi (Jerry Stubbs). Were there Louisiana and Oklahoma belts as well? Who were some notable holders? Did all the state belts get defended in house shows in those states?
I assume there were none for Texas and Missouri since the territory only covered one or two towns in those states.

The only ones I recall are the AR, LA and MS. I do not recall any mention ever of OK, MO or TX having a state champion. The LA and MS continued for a few years in Mid-South until Watts finally started a TV title instead.
I do not remember any mention of state championships before the '77 or so time frame. I suppose they started them because at that time McGuirk's show was on in 17 TV markets so some nights they were running 2 or 3 shows. This way a singles title could be defended without the NA title on the card plus the NWA jr heavyweight title was not as active as it had been in earlier years.
