My favorite is and always will be the United States Heavyweight Championship used in Northern California by Roy Shires Promotion.  The second would be one that Lou Thesz had in Los Angeles.

My least favorite ever was the AWA Tag belts that were used up until the end. "American Wrestling Alliance"? There's the typographical error of all time right there!

I hate sports entertainment but I love wrestling. Hence, I don't watch the business any more. :(

I envy those who lived in a territory. I grew up in Tucson, AZ. My "territory" was being a WWF "C" town.

I believe the business fell on its ass in the early 90's because WCW started to copy WWF when it really should have been the other way around.

My favorite was the original version of Big Gold.  It just screamed World Champion and stood out among the rest.

I always liked the domed globe NWA title, and the AWA inmate belt that Hansen drove his truck over was pretty nice as well. I kind of liked the U.S. title that was shaped like the U.S, the Mid-South North American title belt was huge and I thought that was cool belt. I hated the black & white Southwest titles that looked like cowhide. I also thought that the trophy shop belts looked cheap and cheesy, as well as the big green belt Hogan won from the Iron Sheik.

The AWA belt mentioned is a trophy shop belt. Just saying.............

Interesting, it doesn't have the look of a typical trophy shop belt. I had always heard it was made at a prison by inmates. Hence the name the inmate belt. I figured if you flipped over the center plate of the belt it would say Minnesota, BR-549 with an expiration date.

LOL!
It was made of sheet metal and trophy pieces, but the etching detail, which gets lost unless one is up close, was pretty amazing. Someone took a lot of time with it.
Nick called it "the big license plate" actually.

None the less, I thought the AWA big license plate was probably the best looking belt of all. I have seen some close up clear pictures of that belt and there was a lot of work, time, and skill put into that belt. I know everyone goes on about the big gold belt but the first time I saw big gold I thought it was a based on the AWA inmate belt. There are quite a few similarities.

Love the inmate belt. There is a story  somewhere about Greg Gagne chasing someone out of HighSchool gym or the like after the belt was stolen. Lol. Crazy

That was his dad's belt in Davenport. I THINK  the belt in question was Verne's 1951 Police Gazette belt converted by Mr. Reggie. If not, it was certainly patterned after it using the same trophy shop backings. Reggie made a few similar belts including Fritz's American belt.

Interesting, I noticed there were several belts out there that looked like Verne's old AWA belt. I don't blame Greg for chasing someone down for a stolen belt. Those things are not cheap or easy to replace. That original AWA belt was a good looking belt as well.

I never liked the AWA's inmate belt, I thought it was to big and gaudy.

Favorite belts:  The Hogan WWF belt just prior to the Winged eagle, also partial to the early US title (JCP) and World Tag-title belts

Least Favorite:  AWA title post Stan Hansen.  Was that a Canadian Maple Leaf in gold on it?

This one? One of my favorites.  I've got a Millican copy at home.

I thought the main plate was great, just like the original AWA belt.

I like that belt as well, maybe not as much as the AWA Inmate belt. But it is a cool belt none the less.
