I know Sean isn't going to do a dvd release on a shoot interview with himself(unlike other people that have the ego the size of Philadelphia) So I decided to conduct one myself to answer on this board. I don't believe Sean has told us much about himself so here you go...

How long have you been a wrestling fan?
Before founding KC, did you do anything in wrestling?
What federations did you follow growing up?
Who were your favorite wrestlers?
Do you watch any of the current wrestling product?
Where do you see KC in 10 years?

How long have you been a wrestling fan?
Since around 1978.  Saw Superstar Billy Graham on a big, black & white TV and was hooked.

Before founding KC, did you do anything in wrestling?
Other than buy a ticket, no.

What federations did you follow growing up?
Growing up in the northeast before cable, it was WWWF. Once cable came along, I was able to get WCCW on MSG, Mid Atlantic on UHF, Georgia on TBS, AWA on ESPN.  It was a great time for the wrestling fan...so many options.

Who were your favorite wrestlers?
As I said, Superstar Graham was mesmerizing.  Snuka was over like crazy for a few years in WWF, and as a kid I bought into that. As I got older I was a crazy Piper mark.  I was a smart mouth wiseass, like him.  Difference was that I was 12 and annoying, and he was selling out arenas.

Do you watch any of the current wrestling product?
I try.  I really do.  I find WWE almost intolerable.  it makes me angry...I wish I had the passion for it that I did as a kid.  But their obsession with crossover/mainstream projects and talent waters down the wrestling.  Pro wrestling is like NO OTHER thing in the world.  It needs to be treated as that.  The guest hosts was the final straw for me.  They have some talent over there but it gets lost in Bob Barker sketches and awful acting of awful writing.  TNA has been doing better with their product as of the last three or four weeks I think.  But who knows where that will go.

Where do you see KC in 10 years?
All I can say is that we're committed to continuing our pursuit of innovative, entertaining programming with the stars of wrestling. We'll always have something for everyone.  Ultimately, as content delivery gets easier, I'm sure the options will be endless for an active and popular production company like us.

Here's a few tired old clichéd questions from back in the day, which I would like to hear your answer for some reason:

Who's the bigger star Austin, Rock or Hogan?

Would you ever start a question on a shoot DVD by saying "I guess ..." or "what are you memories" and if the answer is "yes", would you constantly use these phrases throughout your two hour DVD?

Was Vince right to double cross Bret Hart in late 1997?

Do you think Honky Tonk Man is actually the greatest IC champ ever, or is it all bollocks used to put on posters at small hall shows and sell 8x10s?

Do you believe that the Ultimate Warrior died in 1991 and they replaced him with a spastic-mong who these days likes dressing up as IRS?

Do you think skinny cruiserweights who dont look like they could win a fight with Mr. Bean can draw money or main event?

As someone who puts on a really professional job with your shoot interviews, do you think Dave Meltzer puts on a presentable interview style and newsletter considering his grammar is worse than the way he says "urm, kinda, errr ... and you know" every other word?

If you were given an unlimited check, and you could give it to any wrestling personality (it could be one person, or even a joint shoot interview) in the world to do a 4 hour shoot with them, where they were hooked up to a lie detector, who would you pick?

Thanks.

Who's the bigger star Austin, Rock or Hogan?
Rock did a better job of crossover, Austin gave a big pop at the right time, but NO ONE did what Hogan and Vince did for the business.  All the licensing of Rock and Austin that WWE did was CREATED by Hogan and Vince.

Would you ever start a question on a shoot DVD by saying "I guess ..." or "what are you memories" and if the answer is "yes", would you constantly use these phrases throughout your two hour DVD?
I think the fans of our product know the answer to that one ;-)

Was Vince right to double cross Bret Hart in late 1997?
Vince owned a belt, which is in essence a prop, that he let a man playing a part on Vince's stage hold for the show.  Vince's belt, Vince's stage, Vince's script, Vince's business.  Not sure of the "controversey" there. Has anyone asked Bret what Stu would have done if a Stampede champ was asked to leave a strap behind when exiting the fed and he said "no" to Stu?

Do you think Honky Tonk Man is actually the greatest IC champ ever, or is it all bollocks used to put on posters at small hall shows and sell 8x10s?
I think Wayne worked a great gimmick and had major major heat.  I think Wayne's continued use of the phrase "greatest IC champ" is still a way to live the gimmick and generate heat.

Do you think skinny cruiserweights who dont look like they could win a fight with Mr. Bean can draw money or main event?
Let's look at boxing for a sec...NO ONE draws like a badass heavyweight.  There's an aura of mystique and fear that is salable in a 6'7" 275lb monster of a man, set to do battle.  So they'll always have the leg up.  Wrestling is very unique in that the element of showmanship is, in may cases, more important than the in-ring skill. So if you're going to create an aura of mystique with a little skinny guy, they had better be as talented and have a gimmick as visually interesting as a Mysterio.

As someone who puts on a really professional job with your shoot interviews, do you think Dave Meltzer puts on a presentable interview style and newsletter considering his grammar is worse than the way he says "urm, kinda, errr ... and you know" every other word?
I think Dave will be the first to admit that the title of "journalist" is probably best applied to others.  Dave is a op-ed type writer about wrestling and mma.  Recap, some hearsay, and his opinion.  If you want the news, put on 60 Minutes.

If you were given an unlimited check, and you could give it to any wrestling personality (it could be one person, or even a joint shoot interview) in the world to do a 4 hour shoot with them, where they were hooked up to a lie detector, who would you pick?
McMahon.  Easy one.  He's the only living person to have had such a dramatic and direct effect on the business.  I'm sure it's fascinating, lurid, controversial, and comical all at once.  I'll get him.  Eventually ;-)

Don't know if Oscar De Lahoya would agree with that...and look who's pay per view match with Floyd Mayweather Jr DESTROYED all existing pay per view records weather it was Wrestlemania, UFC, or a Mike Tyson fight.

I've gotta say though Sean, from what I have seen you present a very professional DVD. Now just don't go and get caught talking with 14 year old boys and I think you will remain successful. (intended as a joke)

Overall, heavyweight bouts have outdrawn any other weight class.  If you could add em up, they'd outperform by far.

What was the best wrestling match you've seen live?

Whatw as the worst?

Who was the biggest disappointment meeting in person, after being a fan?

What's the worst "shoot interview" you've seen?

Did you get any response whatsoever from WWE from that essay contest/ thank you for them ripping off KC's ideas?

Maybe at one time. But in the last 10 years or more it has been dominated by lighter weight fighters. De La Hoya, Whitaker, Felix Trinidad, Fernando Vargas, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton, Many Pacquiano, Shane Mosley, Bernard Hopkins, Mayweather, Ricardo Mayorga have all had fights around the 1 million buys mark.

Yeah, but there's the statement...ONLY in the absence of a charismatic, enigmatic heavyweight, will middleweights hog the spotlight.  Trust me, I'd rather watch a competitive middleweight boxing bout anyday, over two slovenly HWs leaning on each other for 12 rounds.

What was the best wrestling match you've seen live?
Flair vs Steamboat, Night of Champions, 1984, Meadowlands in NJ

What was the worst?
Too numerous to name.

Who was the biggest disappointment meeting in person, after being a fan?
No real horror stories.  Yet.

What's the worst "shoot interview" you've seen?
I once saw a Shane Douglas/Francine interview in an indoor pool where the echoes and trickling of water drowned out Shane's voice for 4 hours...literally.

Did you get any response whatsoever from WWE from that essay contest/ thank you for them ripping off KC's ideas?
Where would they get their "inspiration" from if they harmed us?

Have you dealt with many piracy issues as of late ?  I recall about six month s ago, there were people posting some of your DVDs on youtube. That did not last too long. I assume you stringently monitor youtube.

Also, you say you started watching wrestling around 1978.  You don't look over 40 at all.

Im not going to admit that I illigally download other peoples products, but I can honestly say I actually buy Kayfabe Commentaries releases. They are actually worth the money. I like the banter between the interviewee and the interviewer. Other shoot interview retailers just bombard the interviewee with questions without any research or fact checking and move on to the next subject. The shoot interview business needed a kick up the arsee, because the money just isnt worth it to listen to a wrestler sit in a hotel room and talk about very little. The novelty's worn off for me.

Piracy is a real issue.  I think the best way to deal with it, and it's what has been successful for us, is to realize that we're human.  We've ALL downloaded illegally.

But the fact remains that if we allow rampant sharing of our products, we'll cease to exist.  We're not a multimillion dollar organization...our projects fund the others, and pay the salaries of the few employees we have.  We don't make money, we're gone.  Period.

So we usually reach out to the individual and explain this to him, before reporting them or having their account closed.  They usually appreciate the personal gesture, without getting all heavy-handed.  It works 90% of the time.

Our fans are so die-hard and loyal, they are usually the ones that report piracy to us.  Just this past week, we had two YouTube videos removed of YouShoot Maria (already!).  And also a torrent which we had traced to the computer that uploaded it.  (We have a scary guy that can do that, even got us the name and address of the isp account holder.)  All it took was an email.

Treat people with respect, and they will grow to respect you. THAT's how we handle piracy.

With that said, have you ever considered doing a wrestling talk show for YouTube on a weekly, biweekly or monthly  basis?  From there, you can also talk about what is going on behind the scenes with KC, discuss upcoming releases and plug some of the current merchandise.

Hello Mr. Oliver newbie here but love your stuff...

1. How did HTM become the first choice and if it wasn't who would it have been?
2. How long do you take to watch the YT submissions? How many are sent daily?
3. Not naming names, but why do we need to see the same guys several times over?
4. If you could do a YouShoot  w/a international wrestler (past or present) who would it be?
5. And lastly...who would be your fuk/mry/kil/ ? (past or present)
