Also Backlund was a pretty bad worker as a heel, so if the match went any length of time, it would've been bad. If I recall, some of the Diesel-Backlund rematches were changed to Diesel-Jeff Jarrett because of this.
As others have mentioned, the babyface winning the title in short fashion is a WWE pattern (Hogan-Sheik, Warrior-HTM, Diesel-Backlund). Ironically, they even tried it with Sheamus-Daniel Bryan which did create a new babyface star...although the wrong one!

I agree...Backlund was good in the match where he turned on Brett...but after that ..the great Bob Backlund was just a cartoon helping out his former boss Vince McMahon.
