That date can't be correct. The cards at Hollywood Legion were held on Mondays and that date is for a Saturday.

Lou was wrestling in St. Louis that night. As I mentioned, they ran Hollywood Legion on Monday nights and most likely this match took place in 1956.

The only time I see Thesz wrestling Tom Rice for the title is July 9, 1951. That period hasn't been research well & I plan to start soon.
Thesz also wrestled Rice on April 23, 1956 at Hollywood in a non-title match, because Lou wasn't champ.
Why is the name of the TV show so important to you? What does it say on the tape? I don't feel like digging it up, if the importance isn't made clear to me.---Steve Yohe

Is this the same match that comes up on You Tube if I type in Lou Thesz vs. Tom Rice? If so, that would be the 1956 match. Dan Tobey introduces Lou as the "former World Champion". Or do you have footage of a different match than this one?
And yes Matt, couldn't have said it better myself. Mistakes can be made and you can't believe everything you read on the internet, no matter how many times it's repeated. If it's a mistake, then no matter how many times it's repeated, it's still a mistake.

This is when Thesz was still champ, so if the two dates we have thus far for Thesz vs. Rice at Hollywood Legion Stadium or correct, this would be their 1951 match.
At that time the show broadcasting from Hollywood Legion Stadium was simply known as "Hollywood Legion Wrestling."

Whats interesting about wrestling in LA is the Hollywood Legion show was on what is now KCBS, after the gates began dropping the boys believed that TV was hurting the live gates and walked out refusing to work TV. It impacted four TV shows that were put on hiatus in Feb.
Long Beach and one other place, maybe Culver City came back in early April but the Hollywood show did not come back until early May I believe.
The boys hired an agency and actually got a cut of the ads on TV until those shows were cancelled in 1954 ... by then the show from the Olympic Auditorium was up and running.
