Some of these aren't worth arguing about, as they make the ballot every year and never come close.  Like Ole and Gene Anderson.  We argue about Gene and Ole Anderson every year and its obvious by now they will never go in.

Ultimate Warrior might get more votes this year.

Non-wrstlers, Apter, Gary Hart and Jesse Ventura should go in

Can't vote for CM Punk, his career wasn't long enough

CM Punk's career wasn't long enough, but you'd vote for Brock Lesnar?

That's how I'm doing my ballot too. I made a rough draft of picks the other night. I've already made one change. When I send my finished ballot to Meltzer, I'll also post it here. Of the people you mentioned, I'm definitely voting for Murdoch, Snuka, Apter and Ventura. I considered Lesnar but want to see how the rest of his pro wrestling career turns out.

Heh, if we counted all the held up titles in particular AWA areas and cities, Nick Bockwinkel is a 50+ time Champion--khawk20

In the historical era category, I think Hutton deserves careful consideration, but in the end, I couldn't vote for him, because his NWA title reign was considered a flop.  I'd like to hear what Steve Yohe and Tim Hornbaker have to say about Hutton's HOF worthiness.

I think a fairly decent case could be made for nearly everyone in the modern era list.  If I could pick only one, it would be JYD.   To me,  he should have been in long ago.  He was the top star in Mid-South during its golden period,
and the second or third top face in the WWF during its best years in the 80s.   He also transcended the business, becoming something of a mainstream pop culture figure, if only for a very short time.  He had a very rudimentary wrestling style--like most, I consider him a weak in-ring performer.  But no one can doubt that he had major charisma and got his character over.

Edge and Owen Hart are two of my all-time favourites.  But I'm  not sure if they're more worthy than (for example) Sting or  Ivan Koloff or even Warrior (who after all was the number two guy in the business from late '88 to mid '91).   Sgt. Slaughter had quite a great career too and in my view is underrated.  One could argue that Snuka had the biggest influence of any of the individuals in this category.

Among the non-wrestlers, I think George Scott is a very obvious pick.  I would vote for Gorilla Monsoon for the combination of his in-ring and announcing careers, but on this ballot, voters are being asked to judge him strictly on his out-of-the-ring career.

Historical- Gotta go with Wilbur, since I cut my teeth on the WWA. I'd choose Pedro Morales, too.

Modern- JYD, Lesnar, Punk, Owen, Slaughter and Snuka.

Non-wrestlers- Apter, Fink, Gorilla, Gene and Jesse.

CM Punk's career wasn't long enough *on top*   Lesnar was main eventing most of his career.  Punk had one WM main event (vs. Undertaker)   Lesnar was also UFC champion.  PUnk never hit a shooting star suplex did he?

I'd be interested to hear the argument for Ivan Koloff, about whom I am divided.   On the one hand,  he got his heel gimmick over in a number of major promotions over close to two decades, he had main event programs against many of his generation's top star (most notably Bruno), and he was one-half of one of the more historically significant matches of the era.   On the other hand, his biggest impact on the business was as a twenty-two day transitional champion, he was never one of the very top draws, and he wasn't an innovator in any sense.    Is he any more deserving than Orndorff or Greg Valentine, neither of whom is in the HOF?

I don't have a ballot and it's probably a good thing because I don't follow
Japanese or Mexico wrestling at all.

1. Wilbur Snyder
2. Ivan Kolff
3. The Andersons
4. Pepper Gomez
5. Red Bastein
6. The Assassins
7. Dick Murdock

oops, I meant shooting star press

the problem with the ballot is when certain wrestlers were mostly regional stars, they never get nearly enough votes.  Too many people in other parts of the country voting never saw them.  Year after year after year the Anderson Brothers, the RR Express,  Wilbur Snyder, Ivan Koloff, Mr. Wrestling I and II all come up and the same people down south vote for them and nobody else does,

Hopefully this is the last year on the ballot for some of them because Meltzer is going to make it tougher to stay on the ballot.

Sting was WCW's top fave for more than a decade.  Surely he belongs in, he was one of the faces of wrestling in the 90's/

You could vote in Sting's one time tag partner, UW, for similar reasons

You could make an argument for Sgt. Slaughter too, but he left the WWF at the height of his run and he didn't save the AWA, and his return to the WWF bombed as the 'Mania he headlined didn't do well

I don't know how Ivan Koloff couldn't already be in by now.

He was a main event guy for nearly 20 years.  He was always over and always worked well in the ring.

He even improved later in his career when he lost weight and had more speed and endurance.
