Even more dreadful as a babyface. Look, by 1974 he was over pushed here.

Funny to read this. I saw him in Central States - always thought his strength was being the heel

Interesting ways to think about this here. First of all being in the business Dan we didn't call anyone Face. That is an expression the press uses. They were called Baby Face as Mr. Goldstein puts it correctly. In this case of Bulldog Brown he looked like a Bulldog. He was originally here from 1969 to 1972 (4 years consecutively) as a Top Heel. During that era he was box office (He sold tickets). He was a very good heel, however, he had excellent Babyfaces to work with(Don Leo Jonathan, Dutch Savage, Steven Little Bear, Mark Lewin, Duncan McTavish just to name a few). He left early 1973 - came back for a couple of shots in 1975 and then did not return until the spring of 1982. Upon his return in 1982 he came back as a babyface and only drew decent houses with Al Tomko as the heel, however, All Star's attendance has gone down sharply after the Portland Boys stopped coming up in 1981. So the answer to your question is was he better as a heel or babyface? Here is my opinion. Because of his drawing power from 1969 to 1972, his bulldog look and old school psychology he was better in this territory as a heel.

I had seen on TV some of Bulldog's matches vs Moose Morowski in 1981 or 1982, especially a cage match, which were great knock down, drag outs. Also agree the matches i saw on TV vs Tomko were great too. Again, pure brawls...it looked like you could not hurt Bulldog.

I saw him in Central States and he was a fantastic heel. They once sold out Memorial Hall and the only thing on the front of the program was "Brown in a cage." Probably the most hated heel I have ever seen but again this was around 64-70.
