Taking a short vacation to Montreal next week and was hoping someone may be able to IM me and give me a few tips on off the beaten path places to visit and hidden gem dining spots. Was there a few years ago and had a great time, plan to revisit a few spots but looking for new one's. Plan on getting a 3 day subway pass to get around. Any help appreciated.

Schwartz's on 3895 Blvd. St. Laurant the best for smoked meat sandwiches. La Belle Province(a chain)for poutine and St. Hubert(another chain)for chicken. Check any MTL website for food.

Crescent street: this is the place to go drinking if you want to go casual
St. Lawrence: This is the best street in Montreal! China town, little Italy, old Montreal etc. all along this street..the best part is “The Main” which starts at Sherbrooke...more upscale than Crescent, this is more if you want to dress up and go for finer dining or dancing. Tons of amazing restos like Au Pied de Cochon. A bit further north is Schwartz’s, the best place for Montreal smoked meat
Old Montreal: very cool place to see but a bit touristy..Steak Frites St. Paul is very good resto in the area…Gibby’s steakhouse is also a landmark.

Anyone know if Andre the Giant's restaurant is still in Montreal? I would think for any wrestling fan that would be the place to go.

Best poutine in town is at La Banquise located on Rachel Street, 2 minutes from Lafontaine Park.
Their ''Jaco poutine'' is the best: ground beef, onions, mushrooms & pepper sauce.

Thanks for your help guys. Had a fantastic visit.
For smoked meat, went to Schwartz', good as usual but the best I had was at Dunn's. Found another great place that just opened last year called DeVille Dinerbar on Stanley. The food was incredible, ate there twice.
Sorry, no poutine, something I'm gonna have to work up to.
Jean Talon Market another great spot. The color and the freshest fruits and vegetables I've ever seen. My feet thank the Metro, best way to get around town.
The Gardens and Olympic Park were a perfect Sunday.
The Jazz Festival was pretty cool. Very well attended and organized and especially no yip-ya's to spoil the fun.
I almost feel like Quebecer now. Thanks again.

I forgot to tell you if you didn't know that Ben's is closed. They were the ones who invented the smoked meat sandwich.
