Does anyone remember Buddy Austin when he was here in the early 1960's?
If so, did he get over as a heel? How were his interviews?
Thank you - Rich Frisk

I don't remember him from personally seeing him, a bit before my time. But I do recall from old wrestling mags that he was apparently one of Bruno's top foes in the early 60s. If I am not mistaken, not too long ago, I actually browsed through an article that was several pages long covering the simmering feud leading to a big match in Toronto.

Buddy Austin tried to revive his career in the early 70's. He wanted to be Blassie's tag team partner but Fred was not interested because of an alleged alcohol problem.

Real name Austin Rape. He was part of Rogers' crew and left for good around the same time the Nature Boy did (that "1967" result is surely 1963). Someone on this board once described him as a poor man's Johnny Valentine and I concur with that assessment. He was tall, kind of lanky built, with that floppy yeller hair that looked good when the blood and sweat got to flowing. Like JV, he could convincingly play the hero or the villain. His finisher was the Indian Deathlock, and he did the really painful looking version in which he would wrap the leg, then fall back, stand and fall back, stand and fall back, until his opponent was screaming for mercy.

When did Buddy Austin and The Great Scott lose the WWWF US Tag Team titles? It looks like they won them from Buddy Rogers and Johnny Barend in March 1963.
