Ole Anderson & Stan Hansen Were Indeed The Previous Champions Before....They Were Either Stripped Of The Titles Or Forfeited Them.

I am not sure if the champs were Ole & Stan...I thought they were in the tournament.  The way I remember it weren't the Anderson Bros stripped of the belts as Gene was injured and could not defend the belts?  I also seem to remember Ole looking for a partner to replace Gene, and picked Ray Stevens.  Then they had an issue on a TV match and split up.  I think from that point on the belts were held up.

I thought Ole revealed Stan as his partner when they first started talking about the tournaments.

Ole and Stan won the belts in February 1982 at the Omni in a tag team title tournament. They vacated the title in September 1982. Kernodle and Slaughter were acknowledged as champs in September 1982. They allegedly beat Inoki/Baba in the tournament final in Tokyo.

Gene and Ole beat The Masked Superstar and Paul Jones in May 1981 in Richmond, VA to win the belts. Gene suffered a legit injury in December 1981 and they vacated the titles.

Believe this is correct. What Hansen/Anderson won in Feb 82 in Atlanta might have been one of the early round  location"tournaments". Which were held in different arenas around the Mid Atlantic/Georgia areas. And wow, was that really 30 years ago? Holy smokes
