Just saw on the Savage American Legion website that Kenny Jay will indeed be holding his annual benefit this year. It will be Saturday April 12th from 6PM to midnight. It looks like the special guest this year will be none other than Mean Gene Okerlund!

I missed last year, so am anxious to go this year and see everyone again! Who from the board is planning on attending?

SonnyR, will you be attending? I know a lot of people would love to see you. And Bring Herman Schaefer with you! You 2 are still in the same apartment building, right?

I'll try to keep that date open.
I transferred to Tampa beginning of the year but I have some union business to take care of in Milwaukee soon so i'll stop by the property I lived at and if I can locate Herman i'll let him know about the Kenny Jay benefit.
Thank you for passing along the information

You're welcome! Hope to see you, Herman, and any others from this board that can make it.

Maybe MrBruisers favorite band, Tread, will be there again.....

I talked to Kenny Jay about a month ago and he told me about trying to get "Mean" Gene to appear.  If he is now advertising it, sounds like he got Gene to agree to come.

However, if Herman Schafer is coming, I'm not!

LOL Eater of the Dead, just kidding.  Sorry, I couldn't resist.

If he makes it, I will have to bring the comp tape KHawk did for me some years back of Herman, and ask him to sign it.

I'll tell Herman he will have valet parking , a suite at an Embassy Hotel, and some other perks if he attends.
Blue M&M's may seal the deal !

Sonny,
I'm sure that Eater will tend to all of those things to assure that Herman will appear.

Herman could always supplement the trip by selling 8 X 10's and autographing them.  Then again, I don't know if any 8 X 10's of Herman exist.  If George doesn't have one in his collection they don't!

And Eater, I'd love it if Herman showed up, I wouldn't miss it, especially seeing you wet your pants when he walked in!

One of my favorite memories of the Kenny Jay benefits was seeing Rick Renslow, one-half of the 1980s version of The Alaskans (with Dave Wagner) as he twirled his wife around on the dance floor with the dexterity of a limber gazelle.  What a dichotomy in seeing the gruff old wrestler who could be a growling, rip-snortin' terror between the ropes, and yet smooth as silk as he cut a rug with his favorite dance partner.  He seemed to enjoy my recollections when I told him as much at CAC the year before he passed away.   They seemed to be quite the happy couple.

And yes, their dancing still looked impressive, despite being choreographed to the backdrop of Tread playing the soundtrack.

What a glorious night that would be! Herman strutting in with his 8X10's, then cutting a rug to "Secret Agent Man" by Tread!

I thought it would be appropriate to bump this since we are now only a few weeks out instead of a few months........so, who all is going?

Really hoping Sonny can make it this year, and that he can get his buddy Herman out too!  Its always fun to see new faces there, like Paul Ellering last year!(although I missed that 1).
