I was watching the WWE DVD Jake "The Snake" Roberts:Pick Your Poison.  On the DVD Jake and Hogan talk about a "Snake Pit" that was taped where Jake DDTed Hogan.  Unfortunately a lot of the crowd was cheering for Jake so they never aired the angle.  THey go on to say that they did a couple house shows and again, there was such a vocal Jake crowd that they scrapped the program with Hogan.

Anyone know if the footage of the DDT ever aired?  Also, you ever hear any wrestling legends about the whole affair?

I have heard the legend that it happened - never saw any footage. So on the DVD Hogan admits Jake got a strong response after the DDT?

Yeah I couldn't believe that Hogan admitted it but he did.

Now I am interested in seeing the DVD. If they taped the footage, I wonder why it is not on the DVD. I remember when Jake first came in, he was on the TNT show with some snakes describing himself as the quick one ready to strike and Hogan as the slow one.

Seemed like they were headed towards a program then.

Maybe they'll release the footage on their network.
This clip is the the only footage I've seen of them against each other, don't know if its pre or post that angle (I think it was used in localized promos to build a rematch in RI):

Interestingly enough, there's a "Snake Pit" with Jake & Hogan in it where they confront each other but there's no DDT.

I really enjoyed the DVD.  I wish it would have been a 3 disc set but it was good.  You can get it for a few bucks on Amazon.

In fall of 1986, Jake Roberts had just come off feuds with Ricky Steamboat and Junkyard Dog, and was a star heel. Hogan's feud with Paul Orndorff was winding down, and he needed a new challenger. From what I can tell, the segment where Jake Roberts interviewed Hulk Hogan on "The Snake Pit" DID air, on the November 22, 1986 episode of "WWF Wrestling Challenge."

Roberts and Hogan had an argument which ended with Roberts hitting Hogan with a DDT. This was designed to set up Hogan defending the WWF Title against Jake on the holiday house shows. However, Hogan did not get the sympathetic reaction from the crowd that Vince McMahon and WWF officials were hoping for. Part of the segment aired, and it cut off before Roberts DDT'd Hogan.

Weeks later, WWF taped an episode of "Saturday Night's Main Event" in Los Angeles. One of the bouts had Randy Savage defending the WWF Intercontinental Title against Roberts in a heel vs. heel match. Savage and Miss Elizabeth were the "cool heels" in WWF at the title, so McMahon was surprised when the crowd cheered for Roberts over Savage.

My thoughts: I thought the DDT happened on a separate segment of the Snake Pit. I vaguely remember what was shown with Hogan, but I thought it ended with Hogan leaving. Maybe they reshot it?

I often wonder if they still have all of these localised promos in their vault. (which for the most part, this Snake Pit segment was). Any episodes of Superstars or Challenge that aired on 24/7 featured the "generic" Event Center segments. It would be a shame if all these great promos/segments were lost to time.

This was very short-sighted of WWE. They could have easily aired the segment, but dubbed in fake crowd noise of the reaction they wanted.

That's why I have trouble believing it ever happened exactly like Jake says, although I'd believe they'd think that might've happened had they done it.  But again, they could edit it as necessary.  In Jake's DVD, Hogan mentions that the matches didn't work like they'd hoped, I'd presume he's talking about the crowd being split as Jake was getting a lot of cheers by late 1986, notably against Steamboat, but mentions nothing about a specific Snake Pit with a DDT.  The lost Snake Pit supposedly happened in Phoenix, so you can work from there.

They mention the dark matches being split crowdwise.

The DDT did happen on the Snake Pit. I remember watching it as a kid. I lived in Cranston, Rhode Island at the time, which was in the Providence market. It was the Phoenix Snake Pit, Hogan came back out because Jake was still mouthing off and Jake threw powder in Hogan's face and then he laid him out with the DDT. The crowd went nuts cheering for Jake, including myself. For my birthday, January 29th I got to see Jake face Hogan at the Providence Civic Center with Danny Davis as referee. I thought for sure Jake was going to win the title, unfortunately he didn't. I was really hoping the footage of the DDT would be on the Pick Your Poison DVD. Hopefully now with him going into the Hall of Fame they will now show it before his induction. Would love to see it again!
