I found out about this page today:
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/banned-from-google-and-wondering-why/1644/
Interesting read. I was simply wondering if this was a Google specific thing, or do most/all search engines ban sites for the same/similar reasons. If other engines ban sites for other reasons, I think it would be handy to post related information here so other members can make an informed decision on what content they put on their sites.

It does look like for the most part for discussion forums, spam posts are the culprit. We have designed ICT with spam in mind from the very first. It's fairly hard for a spam robot to post on an ICTforum if all the protections are activated. It's something tokeep in mind for sure tough...

I will ask my question another way.
It says that if there are multiple pages on a site with the same content or "invisible" text (white text on a white background), then Google will view this as an attempt to increase a Google search ranking. A possible outcome is that the site will be "banned" from Google and then not show up in a search result. Not the outcome you want if you want others to find the site.
My new question is, are there other things that could result in a site not being listed in search engines?
