I need to move our board to yet another computer (This will be the last move.  The IP will change but the DNS and directories will be the same.
I would like to preserve ALL the work we have done so far.
From the previous move, I know that the backups do not save hacked files or all of the settings we set in admin.
I found out you cannot just make a clone of the database tables and the board directories and install them on the new machine.
What is the best way to do a complete clone of the board
to a new machine?

If the domain and directories are the same, you can do a DB dump and then you restore it on the other machine. It's easy to do if you have shell access to your database server. If not, you can do a complete backup with the backup tool in the adminCP and restore it at the other place. You can copy your files in the in the /conf directory to your new server but make sure that the database access is not encrypted. If it is, you will not be able to copy the conf_file.php to the other server. The encryption system does not allow the move of the encryption keys to another server.

Undoing the DB encryption did the trick.

For the cloning I tar'ed the entire board directory and the database directory and restored them on the new machine (using the --same-permission option)

So far all looks good
 Thanks

There is one glitch that haunted me in the first installation, I get this error when logging on after I have logged onto or old Ikonboard:

Quote Message
To be able to register or login, you must accept the session cookies. This was set by one of the Site Admins.

If I restart my computer and dont go to the Ikonboard first (Which is on the same server but on a virtual web server with same IP but different DNS) I can log on to our ICT board. I assume there is a cookie or temp file, that Ikonboard leaves on my computer, that screws up the ICT logon.

Also when I reported this problem before on my test server, that server also had an Ikonboard on it along with the ICT board.

Look for the cookie path and cookie prefix. Make sure that they are different than the one you use on ICT. That should fix it.

the ikonboard cookies start with iB and the ICT's start with the default ict_
The cookies path for ikonboard is blank and the path for ICT is /
The domin for the ikonboard cookie is set to .ourdomain.org and there is no domain setting for ICT

I am still getting the same problem.

What would be the proper cookie path setting for the ICT cookies?

Restarting the computer sounds a little bit "overkill" ..
If you have cookie problems I would recommend using Firefox to search for the problem, you have much better control of them there, and it's easier to view and delete a single cookie for a specific site.

Revisiting this topic because I am about to change servers again. I hope things go smooth this time round. Our users get withdrawal anxiety bad if they don't have a daily internet fix.
We do have  several hacks in our board and I wonder if a  clean install of the "soon to be released" new version of the ICT board will work with our modified skins?

Still no replies from "r0t"?

It should work fine. Only a few modifications have been made in the AdminCP sections. The rest of the skins have not changed very much at all.
