Anybody got match results for Leroy Brown trying to remember the feud where someone broke the radio or tape he used for theme music - and several fans sung his music as he walked to the ring. Which even then was lame as I thought why not just get another tape.
He may have been in LA in last 79 or early 80.

He entered the territory at the beginning of '79 as a heel and he turned face in the Summer. If I remember correctly, I think it was Bad News Coage who broke the radio. I always to wonder how he could get such volume out of it though! lol
Here is a link for lots of his match results: http://sportsandwrestling.mywowbb.com/forum2/1429.html

My guess was Ron Starr. My brother and I were talking LA angles last night and he is positive it was Tolos.
In my wrestling experience, meaning since I started watching and when I attended, Brown is the first person to consistently come to the ring to taped music.
Couldn't agree more about the sound, maybe that is why he wanted revenge it was a SPECIAL radio,

Yes, I remember how novel that seemed to me at the time, coming to the ring accompanied by recorded music.

do you remember people singing it for him after the radio was broken? We saw Leroy him at a barbecue place one night after the matches. I am shocked they had any food left by the time he left, very polite guy - joked with the crowd and talked to everybody who spoke to him, but man he had the feedbag on that night.

Any footage of Brown in LA? I met him in 1984 in San Antonio and he was a great guy, as a 12 yr old he was shocked how much wrestling I knew and how I told him I first saw him in LA a few years earlier. He was a great person all around.

I've got a couple of matches of Leroy. I've also got him calling out Sakaguchi before a match and interfering afterwards. In fact Jeff Walton may have even stated in his commentary on one of the matches who might've broken the radio. I'll double check.

I heard he was a nice guy. One of the wrestlers told a story of how when he was really sick in L.A. Leroy took care of him. I'm trying to remember who it was...

Being a NorCal guy, I didn't see a lot of this and don't remember Leroy's radio, but I went through a bunch of the Olympic programs of the time and am guessing if Rock remembers it being Coage who broke the radio, it probably was. Both Leroy and Coage were being managed by Victor Rivera when Leroy turned face because Rivera was "stealing his money" and making "bad investments" for him. This led to numerous matches between Brown and the other two which is probably when the radio was broken. One of the programs has the lyrics to "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" printed on the cover along with the tag line "Sing Leroy On To Victory".

I have no doubt it was Bad News - I always want to fill in my childhood wrestling memories of heel acts in LA with Tolos, Blassie, Starr or Piper.

Bad News was part of the "Company" which included Rivera, Ramos, The Twin Devils, Colosso Colosetti, Bengali, and a few others on the fringes. I watched some of the Brown footage last night and while Jeff doesn't mention who broke the radio, Rivera appears in the corner of one of Brown's footage. Damn, the man was huge!
Tolos popped in and out and Starr didn't come around until after Leroy left I think, although Leroy would return later I believe. Those other guys razor mentioned had some great feuds of their own. Ron Starr was a great heel and Tolos, well, he legend speaks for itself, and I loved when Ron turned faced and the two had a program with each other.
Norcal guys were so lucky because I heard that they not only got to see some of our L.A. stuff, but depending on where they lived and how they adjusted their tv antennaes (or hangers lol), they could sometimes get the Portland stuff too, even before Roy started airing their tapes in '79. I would have envied them had I known, since I had to settle for only reading about other areas in the wrestling mags!

One of the funniest things I ever saw as a kid was "The Company" posing for pictures in the ring. Imagine heel wrestlers in the 70s changing their tough guy poses every few seconds as they grit their teeth while a photog snaps away.
Al Madril stood at ringside and tried not to laugh.
I was there the night Tolos turned on Starr. They had a last man to leave the cage must leave the territory match.
Madril and Walter Johnson, who Tolos had turned on, made it out and Tolos fell off the cage and said he hurt his leg, Starr was halfway to the floor and came back to help Tolos and when they got to the top of the cage Tolos kicked Starr back into the ring and climbed down to the floor.
Somehow Starr got around the leaving the area part and the feud was on.
In my opinion had the Golden Greek been on the national level for the majority of his career, he would be considered the greatest heel of all time. The Monsel Powder incident has been copied a dozen times at least.

It's funny that you mentioned the Company posing for pics, as I was planning on posting one of those a little later.
Tolos was a great heel and the first live match that I can recall seeing was when I was 3 years old in '71 between he and Blassie when their feud was at it's strongest.
He and Ron Starr were almost polar opposites when it came to being a heel. Starr was refreshing in that he was a heel who could wrestle technically and didn't scream during promos.
Tolos was a brawler who was truly a "maniac"! lol Yet while Ron was great because his promos were believable, somehow Tolos was believable as well with all his screaming tirades! Many tried to imitate him but couldn't, and he had you convinced he was truly a maniac and not doing a "Character". I was probably the only person in the building who was cheering for Tolos against Blassie! l guess as a 3 year old I didn't know any better! I have a 30 min. cd of him doing promos and I am spellbound by it every time I hear it! He was one of a kind!
