I don't know. I wonder what kind of convincing Dusty needed to do the job (even in Memphis). There had to be some extra incentive, I would think.

I did some research. Appears that Dusty did put over Dundee that night by pin (had to have some extra incentive, I'd assume). It was a JCP card, no doubt. From what I gather, it drew poorly.
Anyway, I'm surprised Dusty didn't lose by DQ or Countout. I would've expected that kind of result during that time frame.

There had to be some outside interference or something. No way Dusty was going down clean to Bill. There is a result that says Muraco pinned Dusty in less than a minute in the Omni early 80s. You can bet something strange happened.

It may have been during the period Dundee and Landel were running roughshod over everyone.
As for the incident at the Omni, I think Muraco had a roll of quarters.

It was an NWA / Crockett card in Memphis. Dundee was working for Crockett at the time and Dusty was the booker of Crockett's NWA so he was probably being a nice guy and letting Dundee have the win in Dundee's home territory.. Unless you think Dundee said " Hey Dusty! Let me win in my home territory of Memphis and I'll give ya $100 bucks and a six pack of beer", LOL.

As I understand it this was Dusty's bit of revenge over the Dirty Rhodes gimmick--putting over Lawler's on-screen and off-screen rival as the real "King of Tennessee" in Lawler's backyard. Dundee actually cut a promo hyping this match on TBS.

I'll bet there wasn't a video camera allowed anywhere near that building. Therefore Dusty didn't have to worry about any proof that the match took place or that he took the pin.

Two-month bump because I stumbled across an account of the finish on another board:
""Only in Memphis would Dundee be allowed to beat Rhodes. This was a one fall Texas Death Match. They used the first man to stand up finish as Tommy Young had counted both men out. Dundee grabbed Young's legs as Dusty made it to his feet, Barbarian got up on the apron and headbutted Rhodes. With Rhodes down, Dundee got up and was declared the winner." - Mat Results Vol 05 No 06

I always felt bad for Dundee & Landel for the way they were used when they came to Crockett. Years later after finding out Dundee was Bobby Eaton's father in law, I guess he wanted to be closer to his daughter and grand kids.
