The numbers speak for themselves after they went with Slaughter as Champion it was all over until 1998.

After Slaughter was champion, there were other factors to take into account. The highly publicized steroid and sexual harassment charges saw business across the board suffer.
How much this effected the WWF brand, Hulk Hogan and the Warrior is unknown. We do know it had a huge effect on the industry.

Certainly not as important but probably more than some think, the departure of Jesse Ventura before SummerSlam90 was a huge blow in terms of the quality and entertainment aspect of the tv product. I'm rewatching a lot of old WWF Supertars and Saturday Night's Main Event and the absence of Jesse on commentary is sorely missed, he made everything seem so important and interesting at the same time. He was a huge part of the WWF brand and had been for a long time. Like one of the more beloved actor in a certain tv series, the guy leaves after the 4th season or something, this always hurts ratings. They never replaced him. WWF Superstars broadcasts became boring fast.
Come the late 80's and early 90's a lot of fans only watched the WWF so the WWF became kind of a brand, you had Jesse-Gorilla Mean Gene there for so long Hogan-Savage, Bobby Heenan, Andre and then when you think of it by the time Warrior first left he had been super popular for over 3 years. At the time he was the first major babyface star to simply leave the company.
Savage went from heel to face to heel.
Piper had a brief babyface run before leaving but had always been a heel.
By the time Andre "left" he had been a heel for 3+ years and clearly had nothing left to give.
A lot of the fans were kids then so in a span of only 7 months you have Warrior losing the World title inexplicably for kids and then completely leaving. That must have drove tons of young fans away.
Also Hogan's same old routine became boring and the booking became all over the place.

What's interesting at the time, WCW's numbers on syndication and cable were often better than Vince's.
Vince was just better at turning those viewers into paying customers.

It helped that Vince would never do something as incredibly stupid as firing his World Heavyweight Champion right before a PPV like Jim Herd did to Ric Flair before the 91 GAB.

That would prove my point that losing Jesse Ventura on Superstars was a HUGE blow.

My own feelings on this are that when a crisis breaks out, people look for popular entertainment to distract them in the moment. The war had just broken out. Likewise you might think the Wolf Man, released on December 8, 1941, would be a flop given Pearl Harbor happened the day prior, but it was a huge hit in the next few months. People need distractions.

Then the War ended earlier than expected and Vince couldn't or didn't want to end the stupid Slaughter push.

In what way? Losing Jesse did not show a negative effect on the ratings.
The misconception is that Vince was always beating JCP/Turner in the ratings. It's just not true, in fact there were times when Watts had stronger syndicated ratings than Vince. Vince just had better deals in place, bigger stars, a stronger national touring production, and more to get the most out of the ratings.
Excellent points. I'm not familiar with regular WCW tv at the time but you would think The Event Center and all that stuff with Mean Gene was extremely efficient to sell tickets for house shows and ppv's. Is that one of the major difference?

The WWF did an awesome job plugging house shows with the Event Center and the Howard Finkel voice overs saying the World Wrestling Federation is on tour coming to an arena near you.

For some reason I got this PPV for free. I was gonna just listen to it while doing something else, and it was just on. I turned it on in the middle of the Warrior/Sherri interview.

Were you apart of the military/armed forces? That might be a reason why you got it for free.
