I hate to be devil's advocate,but... I know author spent a massive amount of time with the book but I tried finding court records of sheik or BTW bankruptcy court filings or whatever, couldn't find anything. And all the talk "he had a girlfriend" again ,wasn't it Fred Curry that gave them that info and I've heard fred say some things that were slightly stretching the truth. The drugs,I don't see that.I've known or know people that have had addiction to opiates and they simply get to the point they can not function and some of my friends have died from it. I've watched alot of sabu interviews about Sheik and he has never stated that I have heard anything about bankruptcies, woman,or drugs. I have had converstaions with Joyce about Sheik, never a bad word. She thought he  was going to get better at the end.She even told my wife and I "after Sheik gets better if he can't make it to our shows I'll get you kids over to the house, but,be forewarned you'd be meeting Sheik,so you know what to expect". As far as bankruptcy for BTW Jr. had stated on a forum the last 3 years they grossed 9 million dollars which was probably a stretch. When asked about if Sheik was out of money,he just laughed at that,"he's got money but I can see where people might think that because it doesn't bother him to spend money". I would just like to see some sort of really good proof and I just don't think it's there.

No, love the devil's advocate take.........Nothing would be out of wanting to drive book sales than someone making some thing up, ie. See Ty Cobb author.
I always wondered about the house. I read there were cost over runs when being built. Around the time it was built the business was going down. To me the drug use would make sense based on his body and how long he wrestled. That is pretty consistent. The infidelity was something that I did not buy originally. He always wanted to be home after work. Talk about how much of a family man he was. How Joyce was involved in the business. But at the end of his work. He was probably having trouble with money since he made that last trip to Japan. People do desperate things when they have too. Interesting conversation. Plus I wouldn't take anything anyone from Farhat family said as gospel. Its unfortunately the way the family ended up. Probably one reason the author did not interview the family. They would not have gotten a straight answer from them.

I just read the book and it was excellent.  Was sad to read that by the time.Sheik was posthumously inducted into the WWE HOF, Joyce has lost the mansion in Williamette and she and Ed Jr were sharing a trailer.  She needed the legends contract that comes with WWE HOF induction. Hadn't realized that Sheik had a gambling problem.  You can burn through a lot of money fast playing blackjack in the high stakes rooms at casinos

Not sure anyone would really know....but we all know how sheik was a stickler for kayfabe....very strict....how do you gamble in high stakes rooms at big casinos while portraying the wild man gimmick who speaks no English? Same with the infidelity and picking up the ladies?

The pics in the book.show Sheik very well.dressed and walking around.  Not everyone is wrestling fans and without his gear and act, he was just another distinguished looking older guy walking through airports .etc.  Non wrestling fans, most people, wouldn't have recognized him and certainly not in a high end casino where celebrities regularly play

Makes sense if we were talking about the normal wrestler and Kay fabe, my point with him is various stories of him not even speaking English  in the airports or anything ...he would have his wife come with him and talk for him.. so he took it to a whole new level. Yes most people wouldn't recognize him, but he always seemed to be mindful the fact that there could be a wrestling fan or two that would recognize him therefore took kfabe to an extreme. These stories seem to contradict that
