Do I have it right that Ron Fuller repurchased the Knoxville area to add to Birmingham/Dotham for CCW?  If so from whom?

Ron brought Continental to Knoxville starting in 1986.He brought Continental to Chattanooga in 1987. Both cities were part of Ron's USA  promotion in 1988--tv done in Knoxville.

Tojo, was there any reason why CWA / Memphis didn't go for Knoxville? They were already running the rest of the state, weren't they?

I'm thinking that would've been too expansive/expensive for Jarrett.  I think they liked their circuit just fine (at the time).  "If it isn't broke, don't fix it."

Tennessee is a very long state from West to East or East to West.

Did Fuller 're-purchase' the territory or did he simply take it back when Flair and Mulligan abandoned it?

As for Jarrett running Knoxville, he likely knew it would have been an expensive venture to run that far from Memphis. It takes about a day to cross Tennessee from end to end. He would have had to use a split crew and did house shows at points in between Memphis and Knoxville just to have a chance for everyone to break even or make a little money. Jarrett rarely had a big enough roster to run a split schedule on a regular basis. Jerry did have television in most of Tennessee throughout the 80's though. Sometimes it overlapped with Continental and caused some continuity problems.

Beau James stated on a Peachstate Pandemonium that Fuller would hotshot the territory to build it up then sell it based upon current profits and attendance. Once the new owner took over, profits and attendance went down, due to the end of the hot shots, they would be loosing money and looking for a way to get out. Fuller would come in and offer to buy back the territory, but at a reduced price. Pretty cleaver actually, I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing.

wait a minute, Jarrett had no issue playing Indiana (Evansville) and Kentucky (Louisville) regularly but Knoxville a big city in his own state?!  It was just as long a drive from Memphis to Louisville or Evansville as to Knoxville!

Actually Louisville is closer to Memphis than Knoxville. But when Jarrett came north he had two towns to run as opposed to running just Knoxville. Add to that he only paid $25 to use the building in Evansville. Usually the guys spent the night in Louisville or Evansville to run both towns.

According to google, it is 386 miles between Memphis and Louisville. It is 391 miles between Memphis and Knoxville.  A big five mile difference!

Its also 179 miles between Nashville and Knoxville and 176 miles bertween Nashville and Louisville.  Didn't most of the guys actually live and base themselves out of Nashville, where the office was, rather than Memphis?  the lengrh of the drive is not an excuse, they could have playied Knoxville.

When Jim Cornette started Smoky Mountain, he was more than willing to play Knoxville.  He knew he could do Knoxville, Nashville and Louisville in the same loop.

I'm not Jerry Jarrett so I really don't know why he didn't try to run Knoxville. I'm just speculating. I would say to ask Jerry specifically. He's on Twitter and he looks to be very receptive to fans and their questions. If you get an answer please post it, I would like to know his reasoning.

Jerry Jarett just stated on his podcast this week that he didn't run Knoxville or that area because he just wasn't interested. He was happy running his regular Memphis loop.

As it was, Ole Anderson took a shot in the early 80s trying to expand GCW further north using cities in eastern Tennessee.  To try to avoid running the Georgia talent into the ground, they launched a second TV program from Chattanooga, I believe.  Bill Dundee booked the "GCW Superstars" show for TBS using younger talent from Memphis, including a young Jim Cornette.  The show maybe lasted two months before they decided it was more trouble than it was worth.
And before that in the 70s, Jarrett made an agreement with Ron Fuller to book some of the old Gulas stops in eastern Tennessee simply because he didn't want to be bothered.

The WCW Presents GCW Superstars thing was launched in cooperation with Memphis to give the local fans some wrestling because the regulars from TBS would be up on the Northern tours. After a few weeks Ole just decided he didn't want to do it anymore and pulled the plug
