Why...with a city the size of Montreal...are results from this era so difficult to come by? For example, for September 1966 all I have is;

Wednesday, September 7, 1966
Chicoutimi – Ed Carpentier D Hans Schmidt.

Sunday, September 11, 1966
Quebec City – Ed Carpentier & Johnny Rougeau W Chin Lee & Hans Schmidt.

Monday, September 26, 1966
Montreal – Hans Schmidt W Johnny Rougeau.

Wednesday, September 28, 1966
Quebec City – Ed Carpentier D Hans Schmidt.

Does anyone have comprehensive results for this era they would be willing to share?

Once I get through 67 , I'll eventually check it out if we can find results in the newspaper on line I am using for 67.

According to my records, the last Montreal card of 1965 was on November 25th. However, there is a strange information gap from January 1966 right up to the June 6th card at the Paul Sauve Centre. After that, cards took place regularly.

Now, I'm not sure if it was because most of the local papers stopped coverage for that time period or not. This seems odd because Rougeau's promotion got regular print coiverage from his first Montreal card on May 6th, 1965 right up to the end of that year, and coverage resumed in
June 1966.

What's also odd is that Rougeau continued to promote boxing cards during this period.

If (and that's a big "if") there were no wrestling cards held during that stretch, the only thing I can attribute it to was that Johnny Rougeau was flirting with running for political office in the 1966 provincial election. In fact, he did win the Liberal Party nomination in the Dorion riding, only to have Premier Jean Lesage reject his candidacy - his reason being that he wanted a candidate of Italian origin in that largely Italian-speaking riding. There must have been more to the story than just that as Lesage quickly named Francois Arquin (hardly an Italian) as Rougeau's replacement.

Needless to say, Rougeau was not too happy about this and decided to run in the riding as an independant candidate.

Further complicating matters was an incident that made headlines a few days before the election when Jacques Sr. and campaign organizer Paul Dion were arrested for assaulting a young Ontario Liberal Party operative who was in town visiting the riding as an election observer.

The young man in question was none other than Paul Martin Jr. - son of Canada's External Affairs minister - who would himself go on to become Canada's 21st Prime Minister in 2003.

You can't make this stuff up.

In any case, on June 5th (Election Day), Arquin won the riding while Rougeau came in a distant third. The next night, wrestling was back at the Paul Sauve Centre and Rougeau made his in-ring return the following month.

There is also the fact that Bob Langevin who acted as the matchmaker was quite sick at the start of 1966 (colon cancer) , so you gotta wonder if he was able to do his duty even if in fact Rougeau was the real boss.and whether it affected  his licence.

I must say that La Presse is quite uneven regarding the spelling of names especially in the 60s.

Thanks for the great work.
