My pal Gery Roif who's new to KM posted this on the Florida board and I thought it really belonged over here:
Quote: Author Comment Gery Roif Newbie Posts: 2 (3/3/03 6:00:45 am) Reply Question to Bob Roop about Hogan(take your time). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------- Dear Bob,
Just read your last message, so please reply to me after you rest.
Check out my titles page for Hogan. hulkroif.phathost.com/titles.html
I`ve listed your win over Hogan for the Southeastern title, however people told me it didn`t count, yet it`s still listed in places that Hogan beat you in december 79 for the Southeastern title.
Could you please help me out here and of course a short story of the match would be greatly appreciated.
Huge thanks for your time.
So long from the Sunshine State!

Bob Roop left Fuller's S.E. promotion several months before Hogan came to Southeastern, as heel Sterling Golden. Roop was with the Knoxville All-Star group then. Roop has said on another thread that he never wrestled Hogan. I have a bunch of fall & winter, 1979 Knoxville newspaper clips, & they show Hogan beating Dick Slater for the S.E. hvyt. title , then Hogan (as Sterling Golden) losing the title to Bob Armstrong on Christmas night, 1979, in Knoxville.Hogan left Tenn., & went to the WWWF in early 1980, finally as Hulk Hogan, w/ Fred Blassie as his manager.

Hogan was advertised as Gulf Coast/Southeastern (Southern Division) Champion for a show in Mobile, AL on October 31 of 1979.
Although there are no known records of who he won and lost the title from. In fact the entire history of the title's linage is full of holes around that time. Maybe the Roop vs Hogan rumor stems from this? Was Roop in the Gulf Coast area during this time.

No, hewas not.Roop stopped working for Fuller in the spring of '79.I don't ever recall Roop working for Fuller's Ala. Southeastern promotion. He just worked the Knoxville part.

I'd love to---I have hundreds & hundreds of nostalgia clippings that I'd love to post here on KM. Been wanting to share those for years. But, I have no scanner, nor the knowledge on how to scan & post.Sadly, I'm very limited on computers.Plus, when I originally posted about this--years back--I had a bigger clips collection. Many have been given away over the years--though, I still have a ton of Knoxville '70's clippings.

Oh, and here I am with a scanner and nothing to scan. lol
I'm currently building the largest and most complete sight regarding Hulk Hogan's match history. In addition to just listing the matches I'm trying to add pictures (of the matches or clippings) and/or video to as many matches as I can find so that all fans can confirm the matches for themselves.

Hey all,
I thought I would shed some light on this. I have collected match results and clipping for Hogan for the last twenty years. I have over 2900 match results and about 2000 clippings.
I have travel to Tenn, Alabama, Georgia, and Kentucky doing research about Hogan. I also have quite a bit of research on southeastern in Knoxville and Alabama from 1979.
Hogan did wrestle Roop at least once in 1979. I have the clippings.
As far as the Oct 31 card, the card was canceled, but after that date Tanaka was recognized as the southeastern (Gulf Coacst) Champ.
So, I am figuring Hogan's run was done, so there could have been a phantom change or Hogan and Tanaka wrestled at a smaller show later that week and the title change happened then.
If you have other question, I may be able to answer them.

Tojo Mojo - As soon as I get my new scanner at the beginning of 2013. I will find the clipping and post it here.
The Boss - I am in the process of putting all my information, match results, and clippings into book form.
