In your opinion, who was the 3rd best champion after Gagne and Bockwinkel?

I can tell you every NWA champ 50's -early 90's',every WWWF champ thru 83 but forget who all held belt pre 1970 AWA. The champs and title matches pre 1970 AWA never get talked about in podcast or anywhere for the most part.

I thought Rick Martel made a great AWA champion.
Also although Larry Z was at the sad tail end of the AWA his run as champion was very entertaining.

I thought Stan Hansen since he was different than either of the top 2. Two "scientific" then a brawler style.

I chuckle when some of you above have answered the question asked on this thread, mention Kiniski and Von Erich. Not saying they weren't good wrestlers, but their respective AWA title reigns were the sheer definition of a "coffee break".
Kiniski held the AWA from July 11, 1961 to August 8, 1961. That's only 28 days! And Von Erich's reign was even shorter. He held from July 27, 1963 to August 8, 1963.
I'm sorry, but neither of these short runs with the AWA title qualifies them to be the greatest AWA champions after Gagne and Bockwinkel. That honor has to without debate has to go to Mad Dog Vachon. He held the title 5 different time between May 1964 and February 1967.

Right you are George. Correctamundo in the words of Arthur Fonzarelli.. I believe that Dick Beyer when he was Dr. X had the AWA strap but it may have only been in one of the AWA towns until Verne took it back on the next house show rematch.
I believe that Doc X would have been a good and credible AWA Champion had Verne allowed him to carry the strap for maybe 6 months to a year.

Sir Arthur Fonzarelli, being from Milwaukee, would definitely make a pitch for The Crusher as being the fourth best AWA champion.

Yeah, Stan's title run had a very different feel to it. It was almost treated like a reign of terror from an invader who was holding the title hostage.
