12/27/82 Fort Worth
King Kong Bundy beat Terry Gordy DQ, bodyslam match
Kevin & David Von Erich beat Bill Irwin & Spoiler
Kabuki, Magic Dragon & Checkmate beat Ken Mantell, Bugsy McGraw & Al Madril
Buddy Roberts drew Al Madril
Michael Hayes beat Brian Adias
Frank Dusek beat Samoan
My first ever live event I attended. Was so excited. I was 13 & my mom had a friend of hers from work take me. (Where he proceeded to drink a bottle of whiskey he snuck in and pass out, but that's a whole other story) The Von Erichs vs Irwin & Spoiler was the 2 out of 3 Falls TV Main Event. There was one other match not listed: Little Person wrestler, a Native American (Little Beaver?) defeated Little Tokyo defending a Midget Title. The Samoan was a rookie Samu and was the first match on the card, not televised. They were hyping next week's card which Andre the Giant was to face King Kong Bundy in a Body slam match.
But back on topic, I don't doubt if Buddy made appearances here before this night, I just don't recall him being on TV before Xmas night that David subbed for him. The Fort Worth shows (Saturday Night Wrestling) I watched every week, but the syndicated show on Ch. 39 from Dallas seemed to be all over the place before settling on Sunday mornings at 11 am CST.

Thank you for sharing, Sometimes some of the side stories of people's experiences are the most entertaining... so let's hear more detail on that whole nother story about your mom's friend taking you and passing out.. did he wake up on time to drive you home? Was your mom upset with him for not really being a responsible Guardian:-)

Well, he passed out about 4 matches in and managed to slink down in his chair and go from one row to the other (we were in the upper balcony). I followed him down to the empty seat next to him and wondered if he would wake up after the main (the 6 man match). He didn't. I went out to where the concession stands were and couldn't find any pay phone to call home.
So, I went back up and managed to wake him up. He stumbled out and we proceeded to leave. Right by the doors in the lobby to leave Will Rogers, I saw some pay phones but was afraid he'd get belligerent if I told him I was calling my mom. surely this adult man knew what he was doing, right? He drove me back to his apartment, which was about a 12-minute drive from Will Rogers. My sister was due to pick me up from his place, which she did, and I told her about it. All she asked me was "Are you gonna tell Mom? I would."
When I told my mom about it the next day, needless to say she was mad. Told him off and got mad at me for not calling her to come get me. Gotta love the 80s! Now the second time I went to a live event was June 17, 1983, for the International Star Wars event at Reunion Arena. My Dad took me to that one. There's a tragic story attached to that show, but I'll save that for another time.

Wow..didn't think the card was THAT bad lol... Anyway, not sure why they used the name "Samoan". What's next? Russian vs. American? Human 1 vs. Human 2 lol?
