For anyone that interested, please read the book about Brody that just came out by Larry Matysik and Frank's widow, Barbara.  It is an awesome book with them telling just what kind of person he really was.  Other close friends that are mentioned in the book are Stan Hansen and Terry Funk.  This is the true story of a great guy, not the kind of person some people refer to him as.

WTF? An organization that let one of it's workers get away with murder celebrates the deceased? What kind of messed up booking is this?

"In WWC Anniversary 34 2007 This is one of the main events and is The Bruiser Broody Memorial Cup."

I apologize if I'm out of line here but this seems very inappropriate of Carlos Colon and Victor Jovica.

Quoted from: The Destroying Angel, June 21st, 2005 02:48  GMT
I'm sure this incident will be discussed forever by old school fans.  Fact is, folks, I've waded into this conversation many times before and the only thing that is clear to me is we're never going to know what really went down.  All we know for sure is that Bruiser Brody was stabbed in the dressing room, and Jose Gonzales was charged with murder and later acquitted.  Everything else is rumor, speculation, conjecture, hearsay, legend, fact mixed with fiction.  Even the wrestlers and other people on the scene at the time haven't been able to come up with a fully credible story.  I've heard so many different storylines concerning this incident, and a lot of speculation on motive.

There is a strong criminal element and a lot of violence and intimidation in wrestling culture dating back to the carny days.  Brody and Gonzales were entertaining workers who both had extremely shady reputations in the industry.

No journalist or scholar has ever done a serious inquiry into this story (or, if they have, it hasn't come to light around these parts), and it's clear that the matter was dropped by Puerto Rican officials AND Brody's friends years ago.

I think instead of always entertaining ourselves with conspiracy theories and bickering over points we know nothing about, us wrestling fans should be looking at it from a different angle.  That is, what is it about the wrestling business that allows such tragedies to happen without consequence?

We're led to believe that kayfabe was broken years ago, but there's still a deeper, darker 'fabe in the industry's undercurrent that protects rather than punishes criminal behaviors.

I know this is an old post, but just had to bring it up because it seems like crap to me.
"what is it about the wrestling business that allows such tragedies to happen without consequence?"
The fact that Jose faced no consequences has NOTHING to do with the wrestling business and EVERYTHING to do with the justice system in Puerto Rico.....not that it's much different in the US, again look at OJ. or would the fact that he faced no consequence be blamed on the seedy underbelly of the NFL?

As for Brody, and all these claims of him being a bully, I don't really see it that way.
Brody was an independant who stood up for what he believed was right and would not let himself be taken advantage of.  Talk to any old timers and they will tell you about how Promoters did not pay them their fair share (in some cases, others were very honest, for example Sam Muchnick always seemed very honest and according to Larry matysik's book on the St Louis area even allowed wrestlers to see the payroll sheets.   Notice how Brody wrestled for years without incident in St Louis)   Brody had big money programs and did big business in a lot of places and never had an issue.   However, again, he would not allow anyone to take advantage of him or the other boys, so if there was someone coming along that didn't repsect the business (Lex Luger) or promoters who screwed the talent when it came to money Bruiser didn't put up with it.

(Since saying "IMO" is the fad nowadays I'll add that this is of course just my opinion.   I am basing my beliefs on this subject from books that I have read, mainly the two by Larry Matysik, stories that I have read in other wrestlers books, and heard from shoot interviews, and the few times that I got to talk with people who knew Brody personally, thank you )

TWRO, thanks for your comments, very well said.  I have met and talked with Frank's widow, Barbara and I am personal friends with Larry.  Frank was an awesome man, despite what some people have said thru the years.  He protected himself, his family and his friends!
