I'm going to go with the Hennig-Saves-Greg angle, for the mere shock value of it. And as has been posted, it came on the heels of Bobby Heenan being introduced as Nick and Ray's manager.

Stevens turning on the Heenan Family was well done, but you could smell that one a mile away. Still a great angle.

I agree, Mick, especially if you consider the long, long history of animosity between Hennig and the Gagnes, going back a couple of decades.

Bruiser: They'd need many of those crayolas just to color Karbo's nose.

Wally was such a character. I remember, even at his funeral!! The late Stan Mayslack, a former wrestler, looked into Wally's open casket. It looked like Wally had a little smirk on his face and Mayslack says, "Look at him! He knows something we don't know!!"

There were so many memoralble ones over the years.  A couple though stand out for me as favorites.

The Dr. X babyface turn against Stevens in 1972 is one of them.

.

I though the Dr. X babyface turn was against Blackjack Lanza. And that was a good t.v. angle. It was the first time I saw tag partners turn on each other.

When Lanza & Heenan turned on Dr. X in August 1970, yes X was a babyface in the match against Lanza.  But, when he retured a year (or so) later, Dr X was in a tag match with Larry Hennig as his partner.  Alledgedly, Hennig's regualr partner at the time, Lars Anderson could not wrestle the TV tag match due to injury.  During the match, Hennig and Anderson (who was at ringside) did not like the fact that Doc was wrestling without breaking the rules.  A feud between Dr. X and Hennig & Lars followed.

In frustration, they turned on him.  Then in another TV angle to cememt the Doc as a bonified babyface, they had the Ray Stevens angle.

Should be pointed out that Doc feuded with Hennig & Anderson, and then when the Stevens angle occured, it was set up to give Doc time off to have needed surgery on his knee.  Thus, in the Stevens TV match, Doc's leg was "broken".

Mick-I seem to remember Jesse calling Wally "Wally Caribou" shortly before tear off the Foreman & Clark discount rack jacket.

Professor Druk Fan-Could you please fill us in on the Prof Druk/Markoff arm wrestling angle?  I'd love to hear about it.

My favorites were the Ax faceturn, and Stevens's split from the Heenan family.

I also want to bring up Dino Bravo defeating and unmasking Super D Mark ll, and then bodyslamming Jerry Blackwell, both occurred in late '79, early '80.

One TV angle I enjoyed, but never really concluded was "The Secret".  I beleive it involved Lars  Anderson and Larry Hennig and a big secret they had which created an angle.  Sad thing is, I dont' recall every finding out what the secret was.

Yes, Anderson and Hennig always said they had "the secret," but we never found out.  A question somebody must ask Hennig in the future.  Think he'll even remember it?

Just in general, I always loved it when Marty would call attention to "a stranger" in the audience observing a match.  The years have clouded my memory, but I think this was used with Druk ("there's a professor in the audience taking notes") and Robinson as well when he first appeared.  And I believe Dr. X also did the observation thing from the audience prior to his appearance in the ring later.  For that matter, didn't Kobayshi first appear from the spectator's chairs?

For TV viewers like me (a visitor to Minnesota in those days) it really added a bit of intrigue that something out of the ordinary was going to happen on the tube that night.

Hey, this could have been extended easily.  How about Marty spouting,

"There's a baron in the audience," Baron Von Raschke

"There's a farmer in the audience," Man Mountain Mike

"There's a bodybuilder in the audience," Superstar Graham

"There's a mechanic in the audience," Scrap Iron Gadaski

"There's a lord in the audience," Alfred Hayes

"There's a Native American in the audience," Frank Hill

"There's an Algerian in the audience," Mad Dog

"There's a truck driver in the audience," Bullinski

etc.

Sort of like The Village People.

How about the same approach to give a little oomph for jobbers breaking into the area:

"There's a crybaby in the audience."
"There's a Duke in the audience."
"There's a malnourished Greek in the audience."
"There's a malnourished Dane in the audience."
"There's a dairyman in the audience."
"There's a punch drunk former boxer in the audience."
"There is a submarine weapons expert in the audience."

I only remember seeing it once or twice. Markoff would arm wrestling some face - I think it might have been Igor. Anyway, the monocled Professor used his cane to leverage Markoff's arm, unnoticed by the hapless arbiter. Everntually, IIRC, and as you would predict, chaos insued. When I stop to think of it, has there ever been a single arm wrestling match in the history of pro wrestling that did not end in chaos? Seems to be an archetype.

I loved all the angles mentioned, especially the The Axe Hennig rescuing the High Flyers on TV on August, 1974!  I also enjoyed the tug-O' war between the Valiant Brothers vs. Hennig and Big Joe Leduc when the Valiant's let go right at the end when Hennig and Leduc were about to pull them over!  I would pay alot of money to see that one again!  I laughed myself silly watching that one!   Does anyone have a copy of that one?  I also liked the arm wrestling match with Superstar Graham vs. Ken Patera when Superstar hit Patera over the head with a chair!  How about Otto Wanz ripping up the phone books and the Hennan Family attacking him!  Lots of fun stuff and great angles over the years!  I even remember when Butch Levy used to jump in the ring and take on the Crusher back in 63 and 64!
