Don't have anything for Greg Gagne vs Steve Regal during that time period. Greg & Jim did the injury angle with Brody with Greg missing more time than Jim. So Greg was on the shelf for part of Regal's reign. The only title matches I have listed for Regal were against Buddy Lane and Buck Zumhofe. There were probably others. I just don't have them listed as such.

Heh, if we counted all the held up titles in particular AWA areas and cities, Nick Bockwinkel is a 50+ time Champion--khawk20

The AWA light heavyweight title was always under-represented, because there weren't enough wrestlers in that weight category to mske it as competitive or interesting.  Many who were in that range were on tag-teams.  I always felt that Zumhoff kept that title almost as a default, but he was over w/ the fans and that title was just a sideshow to the real attractions:  great tag-team fueds, Nick Bockwinkle drawing tons of heat, and a terrific roster of technically skilled wresters.

People say that Greg Gagne was too small to be effective against bigger wrestlers, but wasn't Verne the same size as his son?  No one would ever say old Verne was too small to compete against anyone, and Greg was a heck of a scientific wrestler himself, IMO.
Also, having Brad Rhenigans as a light-heavy champ would have been absurd, legit weight or not.  He would have ripped through any lightheavy contender from that era.

Regal had some title defenses in 1985 in Winnipeg against local favourite Buddy Lane. Not too many others I remember outside of Buck, Graham and Steve besides him that competed for the title.

The 1985 switch was good. Regal had Zumhofe in a boston crab, and Precious (who was out with Steve at ringside) got into an argument with the ref. Greg Gagne was out in Buck's corner, and stole Precious' bottle of "perfume" and got Regal in the eyes. Zumhofe rolled him up for the pin once the ref turned around and won the title.

Precious threw a conniption fit and Greg Gagne basically laughed and pointed at her in the ring. It got a great pop.

Right you are, Ken!
