Watched the new Dark Side of The Ring episode on Chris Adams over the weekend. I thought it did a good job of showing how Adams was a great talent who should have been a big star in the business but his alcohol.and substance abuse issues got in the way.
They interviewed both his brother and his friend Boo Ray who killed him. The brother made it clear he does not believe Boo Ray's claim of self defense.
They re enacted the incident on the plane where Adams attacked a co.pilot. But they did not go into the bit where the media was told Adams had gone blind due to getting splashed in the face with a foreign substance. He was not really blind, he just had to be off tv so he could go back to England and renew his visa. Yet the promotion equated it to the real tragedy of his tag team partner Gino Hernandez dying while he was away 'blinded'
Adams kids were interviewed. His mood swings described give you the impression that Adams was bi polar.
All in all.a good episode

Well done episode. Chris was among my favorite wrestlers from summer 1983 - summer 1986.

I was surprised to hear that Chris Adams' brother did not believe the details surrounding his brother's death.

Wonder if Chris' excessive drug use and drinking started in the UK in the 70s or 1980 or 1981
Or in 1981 when he got to LA

C'mon! Everyone who comes to LA doesn't end up a drug addict!!
I've lived here all my life and I'm not a drug addict and I'm as sane as can be. Well, maybe not a drug addict. Come to think about, I'm not completely sane either. I'm an old time wrestling fan who got banned from the Olympic Auditorium. That's pretty insane!!

Maybe the drug use and alcohol started in Portland in 82 or Dallas in 83
Jeanie Clark would know

I was surprised too. But with it being his own brother, he's probably in denial. Chris was a loose cannon when substances were in his system. It was a matter of when, not if, something tragic would happen.
The Giant smoking skit reminded me of just how silly WCW could be during the time period.

As a fan I found the smoking skit ridiculous
Loved wrestling in the 80s

I just washed it last night, well done. Something kind of random that I never realized before is when they made the comment that he looked like Paul mccartney.... never really noticed that before

I found out about his death in one of the b/w magazines. Not sure when it came out but when I got it at the news center it was the Wednesday right before Thanksgiving that year. First I knew about Chris's troubles but I really only knew of him from those b/w magazines which were mostly kayfabe.

My main takeaway is how Jeannie Clark looks now. Yikes. Ladies, just grow old gracefully. Stay away from the plastic surgery!!!
I thought the episode was well done. I'm not buying the death story, either. Murdered? I don't know. But, I'm not accepting the explanation given at face value.
I never thought Adams worked as a babyface. Much better as a heel.

| I hate sports entertainment but I love wrestling. Hence, I don't watch the business any more. :(
I envy those who lived in a territory. I grew up in Tucson, AZ. My "territory" was being a WWF "C" town.
I believe the business fell on its ass in the early 90's because WCW started to copy WWF when it really should have been the other way around.

I have not watched the episode yet, I have it on my DVR, so I really can't comment yet, other then to say that Chris is a great choice for a DSOTR episode given his sad story; the guy was a big star when WCCW was a red hot promotion but his career was completely derailed by alcohol addiction and his sad untimely end.
