In July of 1981, Bob Roop & Bob Orton Jr. debuted in Mid-South. I believe Roop was the booker. I always wondered how much Bill Watts knew what had really happened about the Knoxville 5 through the wrestling grapevine.

I bet Watts knew exactly what happened, he was very close with Ron Fuller, but of course he was unaware of the video. Bill was a controlling individual, so he was watching everything. I’m sure he kept much more than just an eye on Roop and Orton. However, had Roop tried any funny stuff I’m sure Watts would have “handled” the situation, cowboy style with a little cowboy justice. Think about this, Roop worked Mid-South, Georgia and Florida; Watts, Ole and Graham. 3 guys that would handle a takeover, like Roop had tried in the past, with physical repercussions.

Could this 0be why Roop never got a run in the WWF or AWA?  While Verne could certainly handle Bob Roop the old fashioned way he may have decided that it was easier to simply not bring him in.

I saw on Facebook just yesterday that Ron Fuller and Bob Roop will be having a face to face discussion in Tampa at the Florida Wrestling Reunion. Unfortunately, there will be no official recording of this discussion. Of course this will be the first time Ron and Bob have spoken since the Knoxville incident in 1979. It should be a very interesting discussion.

I'm not sure I understand.... If they are going to have a face-to-face discussion and this is being advertised to happen at the reunion, why wouldn't there be any official record of the discussion?  is it being advertised as a event, like for fans to witness? Or are they setting up a private meeting just between the two of them?

I'm just repeating what I was told on Facebook. It will be open to the fans but they have to buy a ticket. There will be no recording, audio or video, of the discussion, and no written transcript. So, basically if the organizers of the event are not recording the discussion in ANY form then that translates to no official record. BUT, if someone sneaks a recording of the discussion then creates an unofficial record. I hope that clarifies my post.
