Al Zinck, who was a big part of pro wrestling and boxing in Atlantic Canada from the 1950s to the 1990s, has died. He was often a controversial figure, whether it was battling with partner Rudy Kay over International Wrestling or trying to promote WCW shows in Toronto and in the Maritimes. The SlamWrestling.net obituary is extensive, using many interviews with Zinck through the years.

I would be interested in hearing more about the promotional war between Zinck and Emile Dupree.

There was no all out war between Dupre and ESA (Zinck and Kay), most of the Arenas ESA took over in 69 - 77 were rarely if ever used by Dupre. In 68, with no competition, Dupre only ran in Moncton twice, both headlined by Stomper vs. Carpentier, Dupre ran in Shediac instead, he never used the Halifax Forum (a Toronto based group ran 3 or 4 shows there), Dupre used an Auction house in Burnside. He may have ran spot shows in Sydney and Berwick, he did run regularly in Amherst in 68, which ESA took over in 69, both promotions had success there with Rocky Johnston on the card, but failed to draw without him. By 71 the ESA ran 7 choice towns each week, plus TV, taped in Halifax, the morning after the Forum show, the nightly shows were often Identical for the week as they were based of the same TV show. Midseason 73 they stopped running Bridgewater, because of problems with a few fans, it was probably their least grossing town anyway, nearby Lunenburg was Zinck's hometown, and probably the main reason they ran there, I don't know where they ran instead, if they did. Every year after they would return for a short while. Late in 73 Dupre ran a card there.
ESA had the advantage of a locally taped TV product, while from 68 to 71, Dupre used secondhand tapes from Stampede, then when Grand Prix started in Montreal, he used bicycled tapes from them, and used some of their stars.
He usually ran weekly cards in Shediac and Truro, sometimes others, some places were bi-weekly others spot shows, made little or no attempt to run towns where ESA was established. Some years he would take a break midsummer, disappear for about a month.
Even after International shut down in 77, and Dupre got his own TV spot in 78, it was a month later that he started running in the Forum, in May-June 78 he ran cards in Bedford.
When Zinck started up again in 84, he got most of the old Arenas back, including the Halifax Forum, with Dupre moving into the Dartmouth Sportsplex.

Thank you for the info.
Sounds like Dupre was a pretty poor promoter.
