Funny how the TV title would be defended and change hands at house shows in the 80s

Quoted from: Bret Linden, April 30th, 2024 16:01 GMTQuoted from: BattleRoyal, April 30th, 2024 14:12 GMTWhen Larry Z left the promotion to go work for AWA in winter 1989 he vacated the title after holding it for a year. Surprised Dusty did not put the title on himself in 1988.
It was beneath him. Or, at least in his mind, anyway.
I could have gotten behind the title if it was actually ever defended in a Western state. Or if someone could explain to me exactly what a "heritage" title is. That makes as much sense to me as a "television" champion, and that never made sense to me, either.
That was typical JCP-WCW nonsense!

Per Wiki "The belt was created as a tribute to the NWA Western States Heavyweight Championship, a retired territorial championship based in Amarillo, Texas; despite this, the NWA Western States Heritage Championship was never actually defended in Amarillo and most title defenses occurred on the East Coast or in the Midwest."
I am pretty sure that Dusty created the tile to give Barry Windham some steam without him holding the TV or US titles. He dropped the Western States title in January '88, won the tag title with Luger in March and the US title in May. Perhaps Dusty saw more mileage in the UWF as a place to build up or refresh talent yet still keep them under the JCP umbrella.

1987 JCP had the following titles
Western States Heritage Champion
NWA World Champion
TV Champion
US Tag Team Champions
US Champion
NWA World Tag Team Champions
Six Man Tag Team Champions
Am I forgetting any?

Back in ECW, Joey Styles explained that the ECW World Television Title was supposed to represent the best wrestler on television, as a throwback to the days when it was the one title that would be defended every week on television, since the territory's main title would usually be defended at house shows and supercards.

Quoted from: BattleRoyal, May 02nd, 2024 22:04 GMTLadies title?
The NWA did briefly recognize a US Women's title held by Misty Blue Simms, which I believe was actually Killer Kowalski's IWF Women's title belt.

| Never will ever top meeting and getting Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert autograph at a Memphis Wrestling spot show in 1993 after he bad mouthed and threaten to kick Billy Joe Travis butt while Billy Joe was signing pictures.

The brass knuckles title was from MACW days I don't think it ever made an appearance during the time Dusty was booking, which is odd cuz that title was right up Dusty's alley.
