I've been watching more Southwest TV lately. I've really been enjoying it. I have more time to watch those territories that hadn't been high on the priority list and this one really impresses me. It seems I've been overlooking it. The TV product/booking is very solid (even with different bookers).
Anyone have any thoughts on Southwest? I feel that it is one of those underrated territories as it often seems to get overlooked.

Quoted from: BattleRoyal, October 05th, 2021 21:39 GMTLove Southwest when it aired on USA
Same here. They were fortunate to have a lot of talented old pros on their roster and that the promoter's son they were pushing (Tully, of course) was a superstar in the making. Wahoo, Sweetan, Jaggers, even Putski -- all guys who could get the fans worked up (for or against) and deliver action in the ring. I also liked some of their enhancement types, especially Relampago Leon and Ali Bey.
Looking back, the top face in the territory, Scott Casey, might have been their blandest feature performer. He was horrible on the mic and didn't really have a memorable set of moves. But the heel talent around him was so good at being despicable that he really didn't have to do much more than show up in a cowboy hat to get the fans cheering for him.

Yeah, Ali Bey The Turk was the best...loved that guy lol... that is one of the things that made Southwest such a fun show, that even the enhancement Talent were memorable

I totally agree that Southwest Championship Wrestling was an underrated territory, in fact i think Southwest is sort of a cult favorite territory for many, much like ECW would be years later.
Like ECW Southwest used used alot of seemingly second rate talent but was able to use them in an exciting way that got the best out of them and also used a high level of blood & violence to really excite their fans.

I have often wished that WWE would purchase the Southwest Championship Wrestling library and add it's shows to the Network.

Loved Southwest.. Watched from the Fall of '82 until they were pulled off of USA.. Didn't get to watch again until the late winter/early Spring of '85 when it was syndicated into the DFW area for a brief time.. It made its way back to the DFW area by TV when it transformed into USA All-Star Wrestling (from Texas-All Star).. Would love to see all the stuff I missed between 83-85..

My age is catching up with me.. The Spring of '84 was when Southwest was syndicated in the DFW area.. Kevin Sullivan was Hwt Champion, Warlord Jonathan Boyd was still running roughshod & Bob Sweetan was hell-bent on getting rid of Eric Embry..

Tully Blanchard and Gino Hernandez (The Dynamic Duo) were one of my favorite tag teams in 1982

My earliest memory of watching wrestling with my parents was Southwest Championship Wrestling. And it was all that we could pick up until my parents gave in and got cable tv in 1983ish when we started watching Georgia and WCCW as well.
I have to say, Southwest set the bar pretty high for in-ring action! It spoiled me for a lot of the stuff that ended up on tv later.

Being from Texas I grew up on SWCW. Guess I’m a little bias but I honestly think it might be the most underrated promotion of all time.

It's not bad. Had it's peaks and valleys. Cool when they had some of the passing through big names like Brody and McDaniels. Did Bockwinkel work here much? Tully is a legend. Bob Sweetan looked mean. It was a good crew considering they were a small area. I wasn't a fan of the Sheepherders run and then it got real spotty when it became All Star but I loved the uniqueness of the English and Spanish announcers side by side. If I'm looking for some wrestling to watch to pass the time I always like watching a Southwest episode on YouTube. Recently discovered some Leo Burke matches. Guess we went down there after WWF took over Toronto
