No internet or social media and the die hard wrestling fans who knew everything going in NY to L.A. to Texas to AWA to Memphis to Charlotte, etc. was a small miniscule number.
The magazines were usually 2 to 3 months behind of what was currently going on in the companies i mentioned.
Not sure when but SBG who was a favorite of Sam Muchnick in St. Louis missed a booking and was never used again.

Great point, Sonny. The magazines were 2 - 2 1/2 months behind what was currently going on. In northern NJ and NYC in the late 70s and early 80s, we got WWWF/WWF, Florida, LA, Southwest, World Class, and Georgia but a lot of other places only got their local regional territory.

Small arenas in upstate NY is where champion and new challenger would start working together to get their timing down.
SBG beating Backlund in St. Louis is a surprise.
VJM was protective of Backlund to the title
When Buddy Wolfe beat Backlund in Florida, VJM was angry and brought Wolfe up to tv here for Backlund to get the win back.

I don't recall the autobiography where it was written but the fact that Wolfe was brought in for just the one set of WWWF tv taping to lose to Backlund makes the occurrence sound reasonable.
