I remember two occasions that Gordon Solie left the announcer's desk and went to the ring out of concern for an injured wrestler. IIRC both in 1980. Once when Mr. Florida got the cigar in the eye from Humperdink & Super Destroyer and the other when Barry Windham was injured by Don Muraco. I think this was Windham's rookie year.. Seeing Gordon leave his desk, which was a rarity, and rush over to the ring to check on their condition added a little more credibility to the angle...My question is were there any other incidents in CWF when Gordon Solie did this? Maybe in the 60's or 70's? It didn't happen often.
Gordon left the desk when Dusty was burned by a Kevin Sullivan fireball and when Eddie Graham was attacked by Kendo Nagasaki. This was in the 1982-83 time period. Those are two instances that come to mind.
I don't know if this counts, since Eddie Graham was retired from active competition, but I distinctly recall Gordon Solie leaving the desk after Graham was attacked by Kendo Nagasaki when Eddie was trying to untie Brian Blair out of the ring ropes during his match with Nagasaki. They added a good touch of realism by showing the wrestlers and Solie accompanying Graham to the ambulance outside the Tampa Sportatorium and Solie accompanying Graham to the hospital. Bruce Tharpe filled in for Solie for the rest of the show. It was a well-done angle that demonstrated how just ruthless Nagasaki could be.
The end of the match and the angle with Nagasaki and Graham is on YouTube, although the part with Eddie being taken out to the ambulance (I have the complete match and angle on DVD and could upload it. Much better VQ than what is on this video). For now here's the angle for those interested.
