Always have been interested in the PWF/FCW promotion and the question of whether they ever ran house shows occurred to me today. I know that especially at the beginning they really tried to replicate so much of what made Florida wrestling great and so I was wondering if this extended to trying to duplicate some of the traditional house show circuit that CWF had. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

In looking further into this topic, I do see where they ran quite a few shows in small venues, but I guess I should re-phrase my question to ask if they actually ran any kind of regular schedule and that hit the old stand-by cities of Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm, etc. I don't seem to see results for any of those towns in the results I've seen.

I know they ran several house shows at War Memorial Auditorium in Ft. Lauderdale so I'd assume they did house shows elsewhere also... They did a big show at the Knight Center in Miami that had a Dusty Rhodes vs. Terry Funk main event. I don't know if they did any other shows in Miami.

They ran the Tampa State or Tampa Bay Fairgrounds a few times for big shows. I do not think it was a regular stop. In July 1988 I believe, they had a Kerry Von Erich vs Jerry Lawler unified title match as the main.

How long did PWF last? I remember seeing it show up when Dusty was fired from WCW and then seemed gone when Dusty went to the WWF.

PWF originally started as FCW ( Florida Championship Wrestling ) around the summer of 1988. For some reason they couldn't call it CWF ( Championship Wrestling from Florida ). I think someone else owned the CWF name... Dusty was fired from WCW in very early 1989 and FCW was renamed PWF ( Professional Wrestling Federation ) in early 1989. PWF lasted IIRC, until early 1991 but by the end they ran very few shows.

Dusty owned PWF so that is why it started when he was fired from WCW for bleeding in the match with Sting Vs the Roadwarriors on the Clash of Champions. PWF closed when Dusty got signed with WWF for his run up there. When he was running TCW (TurnBuckle Championship Wrestling in GA) the PWF title was the belt used until Ray "Glacier" Lloyd had it stolen from him after taking it in a bar to show off

PWF actually lasted into mid-late 1991, but was no longer a true Florida promotion after Dusty left. The big name talent that came in when he was there left and whatever interest in the promotion was still there mostly disappeared. It ran shows mostly in Central Florida in the triangle from Tampa to Orlando to Gainesville, no local TV just cable on Sunshine Network at 1am Fri night/ Sat. morning. Steve Keirn was champ until mid 91 when he left for the WWF . Tyree Pride was the final champ and the promotion faded away before the end of the year. At the end their main "'arena"was the Sporatorium where CWF had held its TV tapings for decades.
