What did you think of Johnny B Badd? While i didnt like the whole effeminate gimmick (though he was surprisingly able to pull if off as a face), i thought he was an excellent wrestler, with lots of memorable matches.

I thought he was great, both this his ability to work and how he played the gimmick. He was one of the best WCW had during this unfortunate time for the company.

| I hate sports entertainment but I love wrestling. Hence, I don't watch the business any more. :(
I envy those who lived in a territory. I grew up in Tucson, AZ. My "territory" was being a WWF "C" town.
I believe the business fell on its ass in the early 90's because WCW started to copy WWF when it really should have been the other way around.

Wasn't a fan, he was very green and it was very obvious. He was athletic, and could be carried if someone layed a match out for him. And the gimmick was horrendous.

Definitely green to start, but the gimmick overshadowed that enough to get over, then later when he turned face he started developing into a really good worker through the years (not unlike DDP) and was one of WCW's best by the time he jumped. Would've been fun to see him work with all the ECW and lucha guys they brought in during the Monday Night Wars instead of basically working with the same ex-WCW guys like Austin, Foley, Faarooq, Goldust, etc. just in a different company with different gimmicks.

It's insane, and a testament to Mero's willpower and talents that he got over 5 years of mileage out of that gimmick. Turned into a very capable worker by 1994, having some truly great (as in GREAT) matches albeit almost always with top workers.

I think that gimmick would have been great in the 80's WWF. In a feud with Honky Tonk Man! LOL But I hated it when WCW started resorting to those type of hokey ass gimmicks. If they used gimmicks back in the day, they were real life kind. Like being a Russian for example. But when they started being cartoonish or hokey, it was disappointing to me. Because WCW was always the alternative to WWF. Badd was very athletic in the ring though and he continued to improve.

He did get better by 1994 as that poster said and he put on some very good matches. But early in the run it was pretty lame. He had really good high flying moves and made a smooth transition to the WWF in 1996.

Mero did a good job with this gimmick all things considered. It was a better gimmick than his boring boxer gimmick in the WWF. I think it is too bad that McMahon could not have Mero use this gimmick in the WWF because I think he could have been great in Vince's circus. Johnny B. Badd was not as good of a fit in WCW, which I always liked as a grittier alternative to WWF.

Johnny B. Badd was one of the goofier gimmick WCW used at the time, but Mero was actually one of the better workers and got it over well. I thought he had some decent matches during that time.

Didn't care for the Little Richard gimmick. But respected his athletic ability which became evident very early. And he did work hard to continuously improve as a worker. Which are two reasons why he was able to get over as one of WCW' s top assets at a time when wrestling as a whole was in the toilet.

Johnny B. Badd was worlds better in WCW then he was as Mark Mero in WWF where he was just plain boring, it killed his career.

I gotta give Mero credit, he busted his butt and by 94/95 he was tearing it up in the ring. He had the gimmick/look down for years and it's kind of cool to go back and watch his in ring performance progress from 91 to when he jumped to the WWF. I've never been a big DDP fan, and they were having pretty damn good matches before Mero split.
Dusty brought him in as a gimmick and Mero slowly became very solid talent. He made it through the Watts era, which if anything probably enabled him to become a better in ring worker. And on the other side of that he came off pretty polished and having monthly solid matches on PPV and TV.

Speaking of Johnny B. Badd, did you prefer him as a heel or face?
