I have seen several of these matches in JCP from the mid or late 60's and they usually had the Andersons facing another heel team (Hawk & Hanson, Bogni & Lubich) but not The Infernos. Any reason why that match ever took place? Or any of the other heel teams facing one another (Hawk & Hanson vs Lubich & Bogni, etc.)?

The ones I saw in the sixties were good ones. Skull Murhpy was always throwing out challenges to the other heel teams. I got see Skull Murphy and Brute Bernard go against Rip Hawk and Swede Hanson a couple of times.
Back then Rip Hawk would express his dislike for managers in general, especially Homer O'Dell, so he and Swede went against Bogni and Lubich many times. Rip changed his mind about managers by 1971 and when Gary Hart left Rip and Swede in 1972, their old enemy, Homer O'Dell became their manager.
I also saw J.C. Dykes and the Infernos go against Bogni and Lubich with Homer O'Dell and later George Harris. J.C. Dykes did not like other managers and seemed like he wanted prove that he was number one. That was the only time I ever saw Homer O'Dell cheered by the fans when he was facing off against Dykes.
Yes the Andersons did face the Infernos in Winston-Salem, NC in 1970. They may have faced them in other parts of the territory also.

Two of the very best of these type matches that I ever saw took place on television. In the fall of 1964, Skull Murphy and Brute went against the Bolos on the Charlotte program. In November 1971, Rip Hawk and Swede Hanson wrestled Gene Anderson and Art Nelson on All-Star Wrestling taped in Raleigh. I got to see that on on WSLS 10 out of Roanoke, VA.

I always loved these bouts in the kayfabe era. It made things seem so real. Given that at the end of the day heel or face the goal was to be the champ in your territory.

The Kurt Von Stroheim (Willi Rutgowski) on the above clipping also wrestled some as Kurt Von Brauner in Texas in '67-'68, in Tenn. in 1971-'72, & out in Cal. in 1974, plus up in the Detroit area around 1975.He was also Kurt Von Stroheim, along with partner Karl Von Stroheim (Walter Nurnberg) in various territories in the '60's.Real tough guy---had a great menacing, scowl heel look.
