Quoted from: BattleRoyal, February 20th, 2024 23:46 GMTPay was good in WCCW in summer 1985
Jim probably got homesick
Pay was good for everyone?
From the interview it seems he's blaming Jim Powers for his failure in WWF?

Paul Roma and Jim Powers were not pushed initially in WWF. They were paired together as a low to mid card tag team. Jim was probably not going to be pushed in WCCW with the Von Erichs being the featured wrestlers. The people who were paid well in summer 1985 in WCCW were Kerry Von Erich, Kevin Von Erich, Mike Von Erich, Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, Gary Hart, and One Man Gang. Jim Cornette felt he and the Midnight Express were not paid well and left Southwest Sports for Jim Crockett Promotions

True. The main reason why Cornette and the ME stayed in Texas as long as they did was because of a deal Watts had made with the VEs. The money was poor in World Class. Even on the big shows, Cornette and the ME were stiffed.
Back to Roma and that interview, it seemed to me that he was referring to some incident that was on par if not worse than the Janel Grant incident. Roma HAS talked before about Jim Powers being propositioned for oral s*x--he did so on an RF shoot twenty years ago or so.
To me at least Roma knows more than he has said. And if it has to do with Powers, it is not because of any love lost. He has blamed Powers's alcoholism and related unreliability in part for the team's failure to move up the card.
Roma knows something, and so does Mario Mancini, apparently.

I think Roma and Powers were combined and pushed because The Rockers got fired.
Also, Zenk quit so maybe they saw a need for a tag team for the ladies.

I was surprised when I found out Lombardi was happily married to a woman for years.all the jokes and innuendos about him going the other way....i just assumed he was gay. I feel Lombardi is who Roma must have been talking about....sounds like whatever was happening with him and other higher ups must have been ongoing for years.
It wad a clip from a shoot interview...and he referenced his wife of many years a couple times. My heart just sank....that poor guy. The ******* he had to endure for years....

Lombardi never left the company (at least for any real length of time) until only a few years ago, so it's not him.

Think Gorilla would use the phrase "graduate of the Terry Garvin School of Defense" for guys who turned down sexual advances and would use the phrase in "student of the Terry Garvin School of Defense" for guys who accepted sexual advances to advance their careers

By all accounts gorilla was a real gentleman and a great guy and very generous. It is just so strange and bizarre that he would look upon this type of thing so lightly that he would make light-hearted comments about it, and little inside jokes, and even have code phrases for warding off or succumbing to unwanted advances... that would be broadcast on their syndicated television shows, very disturbing and strange

I feel the same way, as in its "disturbing" a Gorilla would make light (although in an inside joke type of way). Not only that, but Gorilla was a guy with much respect who could have been a real locker room or office leader and probably put a stop to the crap.
