I'm sure Vince got off on the fact that after years and years of the mainstream media looking down their nose at wrestling, now he had people sending in videos and kissing his ass for the privilege of hosting one of his shows... No Doubt the bids that are sent in today are much more sophisticated and in-depth than this one... kind of funny that they kept talking about WrestleMania and how its the biggest show of the year, but all the clips that they showed go along with their commentary were just from the syndicated television show squash matches LOL

I read in the Torch in the summer of 2001 Milwaukee had placed a bid to host Wrestlemania at the new Miller Park. Milwaukee did host Wrestlefest 88 at County Stadium but with all the extra empty seats in the outfield, McMahon probably figured stadium shows in Milwaukee won't draw for him.

Great points, Ridgewood Grove. The Silverdome could also draw fans from nearby Ontario, Canada. It may be hard to imagine but Buffalo, NY is only 4 hours from Pontiac, MI.
Think Andre was filming the Princess Bride in 1986.
Andre was portraying Giant Machine in late August 1986.

No WM has ever been held between Chicago and LA except five (one in Las Vegas, one in Glendale, AZ, two in Arlington, TX, and one in Houston).
Never have them tried to run Denver, Kansas City, St. Louis, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, or other cities between Chicago and LA other than the ones mentioned here

Milwaukee is too small a city and I don't know if has the infrastructure to support out-of-town visitors. Yeah, yeah, Chicago's two hours away, but once the new Bears stadium is built you may as well just hold the event there.
Supposedly WWE has a hang-up about cities being perceived as "major" enough to host a Mania. The poor buyrate for WM19 was chalked up internally as being because the event was held in Seattle. I'm not saying this is good logic, but it is or was a belief in the company.
Denver and Kansas City are too cold in April (generally) to be hosting outdoor wrestling events. And KC's another smallish city.

Sounds like Minneapolis is going to be getting WrestleMania in 2025

Have they announced Minneapolis as the host city for WM for next year?

Greg would have to go in with Jim Brunzell. If Wrestlefest 1988 could pull in 27,000, then surely a Wrestlemania at Am Sham Field could draw 50,000.

Places paid bids? Is this true? I thought WWF just picked what they wanted.

Yes, places bid for Mania--and other PPVs (or PLEs as they're generally now known). WWE just ran its Elimination Chamber event in Perth, Australia (at 5.a.m. Eastern Time) because Perth offered up a good enough deal to make it worth it.
Perth is one of the most isolated and remote big cities in the world--it's the one big city on the West Coast of Australia when all of the other major cities are on the other side of the country.

That's right. I seem to remember seeing a video of WWF placing a bid for WM 7 in LA.

Yeah, I didn't know this either. I thought they just looked around for what was available around a year before the next Wrestlemania.
What type of things would a venue offer to try to incentivize the WWE? Was it a lowest bid type deal like most business?

Good questions, also how much is the city itself involved as opposed to just the venue? For example would they maybe offered WWE rebates on all the increased business the city would see over the week, like perhaps a percentage of some sort? I suppose it would work similar to how the Super Bowl or whatever works but I'm not sure how that works either
