It would have been funny if they would have had him wrestle dark matches before the start of some of these tapings and then go sit in the crowd during the taping....

Agree with you, Eater of the Dead. Usually dark match took place at the conclusion of the taping not at the beginning.

Quoted from: BattleRoyal, May 02nd, 2024 02:15 GMTAgree with you, Eater of the Dead. Usually dark match took place at the conclusion of the taping not at the beginning.
I went to a few tapings in the '80s, and you are right the main event dark matches that were advertised locally to get fans of the building usually took place towards the end if not the end of the taping. But sometimes they had guys go out before the taping began to do tryouts who they wanted to take a look at, a lot of times they were unknown to the fans and weren't advertised ahead of time. In fact a good example is Hillbilly Jim as Harley-Davidson before he started sitting in the crowd... believe his match took place before the taping that night
One of the tapings I attended, May 16th 1989 in Lacrosse wisconsin, the opening match that night was a dark match, it was the second meeting of Bret Hart and mega man Tom magee.
It was quite common to have dark/tryout matches before the tapings began. And to your point, they would also have a main event dark match that was heavily advertised locally that they would put at the end of the show to make sure fans stayed in the building so there weren't a bunch of empty seats towards the end of those long tapings

Think in Hamburg, Allentown, Philadelphia, and Poughkeepsie from late September 1971 - late August 1986 the dark match was the main event and billed on the poster and went on last
Dark matches might have changed in terms of when they took place when they moved to Superstars of Wrestling and Wrestling Challenge TV tapings.

WWWF taped three one hour shows. On TV after the first and second hour of airings the fans would remain in their seats as VKM would sign off the show while also telling fans what the feature match was for next week . At the conclusion of the third hour of matches being aired cameras would pan showing fans leaving for the exits as McMahon would sign off from the show

Great question. Do not know. I recall SD Jones waving the kids to come to the ring
They start gathering as a mob on the one side of the ring as Backlund is throwing the Moondogs and Albano out of the ring.

Great question indeed. I suppose if this incident was preplanned by the promotion that they could be considered plants , but if it happened spontaneously, like they tried to make it look, no.

No idea what the Daniel Bryan occupy RAW thing is
The kids seemed to gather on the left side of the screen on that side of the ring as Backlund was cleaning house.
