I remember watching this more than 25 years ago and hearing Gary's words. I felt they were "the truth."
Gary told Chris that he got him the American title and shots at the NWA title. It's true..
Here are Chris' NWA title matches before Hart...
February 3, 1984 lost to Ric Flair by pinfall
July 27, 1984 lost to Ric Flair by pinfall
After Gary took over..
September 17, 1984 lost to Ric Flair by pinfall (1 1/2 weeks before heel turn)
November 9, 1984 lost to Ric Flair by DQ
March 8, 1985 lost to Ric Flair by countout
If I recall correctly, Adams fired Hart in mid March 1985.
Here is the clip..

"I promised you I would make you the American Heavyweight Champion. I promised you a shot at Ricky Flair."

In April 1984, Chris lost the American Heavyweight title to Jimmy Garvin and then saw Gino Hernandez, Mike Von Erich, and Kerry Von Erich lay claim to it before he won it in February 1985

one of the greatest turns I have ever seen, loved the fact that chris never begged off and would always try and go toe-to-toe. Best thing they did was let Chris legit pin Kevin in the second match of the feud.

I always felt bad for Gary when his wrestlers got out of line and left him.

I just saw that angle the other day, really enjoyable way of fully switching from Adams-Gary Hart to Adams-Hernandez.
After helping Adams to the American title, Gary was accused by Adams of deliberately quitting for him (during his I Quit match against Kevin Von Erich on 2/25/85) and during an interview at the 3/4/85 Fort Worth taping Adams fired and hit him, only for Gary to respond by firing him. Later that night Adams superkicked Flair during their NWA title match after a ref bump, only for Gary's latest signing One Man Gang to hit the ring and attack Adams to end the match by DQ. A few days later Bill Mercer interviewed Gary who angrily cleared the table he was sat at before knocking the table over, he really got over how much he wanted to see Adams pay for his mistake.

Heels work best when they either tell the truth or convince you they believe what they are saying. Gary had the ability to convince the fans he believed what he was saying.

I manage a tag team about 3 times a month, and there's not a card that goes by that I don't use something I learned from Gary Hart. From the Dusty turn to the Chris Adams firing, I've learned so much from watching and listening to Gary. There's not a doubt in my mind that he was the best that ever lived.

Gary Hart was involved in so many major moments in wrestling history in the 60s, 70s, and 80s from the Fritz Von Erich face turn to the Dusty Rhodes face turn to the Chris Adams heel turn to Starrcade '83 to the creation of the WCCW Star Wars shows to the creation of Kabuki and Muta
