Prior to ECW, I think that Vince for the most part tried to keep his female talent dressed conservatively (minus Sensational Sherri running around in her thong and getting a beating by the Ultimate Warrior in early 90s) (Wendi Richter, Fabulous Moolah, Rockin Robin, Miss Elizabeth, etc).
It seems like all of the female talent he secured in the mid to late 90s would wear bikinis and not dress modestly at ringside.
Did Vince take the idea of ECW (Beulah, Francine, Missy, etc) and sexualize the women who had under contract in the mid to late 90s?
It seemed like a major shift.

You remember Liz at SS88 or Sherri with suspendrs that was as raunchy as WWF got
I recall even Jenna Jameson being an ECW valet, they did it pretty well
WCW under Russo and WWE just felt a bit like "Porkys" rather than "Venus in furs"

It is true. With the advent of the world wide web and the Internet it brought in a change to how women were presented in wrestling.

Vince and the WWF were booking family entertainment. They used women for cheesecake but in a respectful, inoffensive way.
Paul E. and ECW was booked for wild, raucous college kids and early 20s blue collar workers they used women as sex objects.

Would you say that Vince saw how ECW portrayed women in mid 90s and elected to follow that model in late 90s?

I know Vince claims he never watched other professional wrestling territory shows in the 70s, 80s and 90s but I just find that hard to believe. Agree with you, Pouchkine, he did take clues from society as a whole.

Absolutely. I think Vince saw that his New Generation era WWF booking style had run its course and a change was desperately needed, he looked to what ECW (and latter WCW) was doing and followed suit and out did them at their own game with the Attitude era. One of Vince's biggest strengths as a promoter was his adaptability and ability to change directions.

Look at how Vince was adaptable and changed directions in late 1983 and early 1984 with how other pro wrestling promoters were promoting
