It's probably somewhere in this part of the forum but to Damn lazy to look.
I recall reading if memory serves the Terry Funk book in which he had i believe Terrible Ted The Wrestling Bear working on top on an Amarillo show and The TX Boxing & Wrestling Commission or Dept of Public Safety put the Kibosh on the show stating that The Commission bylaws prohibit a " Black " Bear participating in any type of event or exhibition.
Terry mentioned that he sent one of The Boys out to get some cans of White Spray paint and proceeded to Spray paint The Bear White..
Not sure how Terry Funk did it but he pulled it off and was able to have whoever the 2 Heels were do a less then 5 minute match with Ted while the Paint was running off this poor bears coat and fur.
I'm certain 48 hours later the bylaws were rewritten to prohibit All Bears.
I used an Earl Scheib plug earlier this week on another post somewhere.
" I'm Earl Scheib i'll paint any Bear for $59.95 No ups No Downs , Earl Scheib ! "
Maaco maybe could offer The Ambassador Paint Job.

Ha ha. That's not quite the story. Victor the bear was a black bear, that part is correct, but they did not paint him white! They used a brown hair coloring spray to pretend that he was a brown bear. It was a battle royal, and the bear was going a bit crazy from the smell of the hair spray. Dory Sr undid the ropes so they could easily (or least more easily) eliminate the bear "over" the top rope. The story originally came from Dory Jr.'s website, or at least, that's where I first read it.

Pretty funny story. Appreciate the actual information. Terry Funk i believe told the White Spray Paint version of the story.

That's what I'd read somewhere. And Terry transported the bear in Dory Jr's new caddy, after painting it, ruining the upholstery.
Hoping Terry's happy and comfortable.

Dynamite Kid mentions it in his book. He said Terry painted the bear white and as a rib he rode with the freshly-painted bear in Dory Jr's brand-new car and dubbed him "Snowy the Polar Bear"

Bears do hibernate. So as winter was settong in, the Funks would book Ted the Wrestling Bear up in Calgary with their friends the Harts After doing the loop up in Calgary, Ted would settle in underneath the Hart House porch to sleep for the winter When Stu would be stretching someone in the Dungeon he'd tell them not to scream too loud or they'd wake the bear up

Was Colonel DeBeers working in the Amarillo territory, back then?
Just wait until Larry Nelson hears about this...
