Terry Funk said in the new Kayfabe Commentary Amarillo disc that Harley stormed back and Slatton started weeping and begging for forgiveness and gave Harley the belt back and no fisticuffs happened

This was discussed on another forum.
Any time one person tells contradictory accounts of the same story, it's suspicious. Race himself has told at least 3 different versions, meaning he was telling falsehoods at least twice.
The "dragged Slatton back to the ring" story has been thoroughly debunked. It simply is not true. The fans in the building all went home believing Slatton had won.
Reading up on Slatton, I discovered he was a legit badass, and the idea of him "hiding" from everyone, or cowering/crying is preposterous.
I know people like the idea of Harley Race being the toughest guy ever, but this story has flaws. I'm not saying Harley wasn't A tough guy, but in a real-life fight with anything goes, Slatton would have destroyed him.
Interestingly, there is a photo of Harley taken right after this, and his face is a mess, looking like someone has recently legitimately beaten the sh*t out of him.

Not saying Harley wasn't lying, as you said he was at least twice, but this is the first time ever I have heard anyone claim that somebody would have destroyed Harley in a fight

There's a difference between being physically strong, and being a fighter.
There are guys who undoubtedly have greater brute strength, and could easily win lifting competitions, or tests of strength. But are they better fighters?
Wrestlers love promoting their own images, and telling tales about how badass they are. Not saying Harley wasn't abnormally tough. If it was arm wrestling, or a contest with rules, I'd go with Harley. But in a nothing-barred fight, the kind Slatton had had to be in for years in his jobs, it would have been over in under 20 seconds.
Again, the toughest guy, the biggest badass, isn't coming out on top. The one who has years of experience in real-life confrontations, and can fight better, is.

Definitely agree there's a difference between being a good and Savvy Street Fighter and simply being strong, what I am saying is that I never heard anyone claim that Harley wasn't at or near the top of the list when it came to being a very capable Street fighter, as in Anything Goes no rules fight. I would allow for the fact that in anything goes fight between Harley and Slaton that it's possible either one could come out on top On Any Given day, but no way do I think Slaton would handle him as easily as you're claiming... it simply goes against everything anyone in the wrestling business has ever said regarding Harley

If Slatton beat Harley in a street fight i highly doubt that Slatton would be in any shape to have a victory dinner celebration.

And everyone "knew" that "If this was a shoot, Doctor Death would beat everyone". Enter Bart Gunn.
"If this was real, the Steiners would destroy everybody else". Norman Smiley has entered the discussion.
As for the "street fight", with Slatton's background and training, Slatton could have choked/knocked Race out in less time than it took you to read this.
We all love the idea of "Putting the Fear of Harley into someone", but if Harley had attacked Don Slatton, he would have been lucky to get away with just being knocked out.
