Some on here have made mention of the fact that they would really like to see the old days back.  The old days, as in the way wrestling used to be in the 1970s, 1980s, etc, before the McMahon takeover.  The way Memphis was back then, and the way Indianapolis was back then.

So, as with most things, everything has a tendency to run its course, complete the cycle.  The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Anybody suspect that one day, perhaps 2-3 years, or 10-12 years down the road, we will see professional wrestling revert back to, as i call it, the Glory Days of the 1970s?  That being when most big towns had their own promotion, stars, announcers, plots, etc?

Mike

That was a wonderful time that is long gone. Due to cable/satelite TV and the internet that territories will not work in this day and age. Tojo said it best, Enjoy your memories, tapes, & DVD's.

One could argue that the Ring of Honor promotion has been running territory-style in the northeast for roughly ten years now, so I don't see why it couldn't happen someplace else.  I'm really surprised that no one's attempted something similar in the south, as wrestling was once as ingrained in the culture here as country music, Walmart and Nascar.  I believe a kayfabe-style promotion with the right backing could work, here.

Never say never. Out there, somewhere, is an old school wrestling fan that has a boat load of money and is just looking for a chance to jump in the door.

To be quite honest, there are several small promotions out there right now that tow the line very close to old school. Southern All-Star Wrestling, NWA Smoky Mountain, Traditional Championship Wrestling all stick rather close to what we know and love about pro wrestling. All three keep their weekly shows on YouTube as well.

Also, somewhere out there is somebody with a boat load of cash that loved Memphis or Mid-South or Georgia or Florida or what have you and is just waiting for a chance to get in the door.

It wouldn't take much effort to re-train fans on the old school ways. The reason: the UFC already does it. Everything about the UFC and similar promotions is old school. As soon as some promoter figures out how to re-harness that for professional wrestling we will see old school again.

I don't think you will ever see true old school wrestling again. At times you will see something that will remind you of old school or something done in a simmilar fashion. But the territories we knew are a thing of the past. Although I hope I am wrong.

I think we can kiss the territory style goodbye. That one is pretty much a thing of the past now. I don't think there would be any way to possibly do it like it once was now that everything is so easily exposed.

So while I think the style could come back one day, the idea of a promotional territory system I believe is going to stay in the past.

You might get some start up with a studio show, but that is about it and even if we got an old school presentation most of us who saw real old school or some version we at least call that, will still probably not enjoy it as much as we enjoyed what we watched in our youth.

I see it going the other way ... once Vince passes on, it probably goes away altogether.

An old school presentation of wrestling in this day and age, in a market for it not just to survive but thrive, would be nit picked apart by the smarks. It kills me to say that but I believe that would be the case.

What is old school anyway, for this generation it is Hogan in his prime - could they get behind a studio show?

A wrestling fan will get behind anything that is well booked, passionate, and has a foundation of realism behind it. You do those things and you can book it in a parking lot, a television studio, a gymnasium, a basketball arena, or a football stadium and it will find fans.
