Alex Karras, the great Detroit Lions lineman (and off-season wrestler, briefly) passed away last week at the age of 77. I remember hearing the stories of his bar fight w/ Dick the Bruiser. I'm sure it has been exaggerated greatly over the years, and it seems now to have been a well-planned work. Do any of you guys know the details behind it? Did Bruiser and Karras use this to build up matches?

It started out as a work, until someone called the cops. Then it turned real. IIRC, it took nine cops to subdue Bruiser and cart him off to jail.
Yes, they did use this for building up a grudge match. That was the original angle.

Karras didn't even show for the bar fight and Bruiser got pissed and trashed the place is what I've always heard.
