Rex Peery was head coach of the PITT wrestling team and helped Bruno as an amateur.
He originally worked out and trained with Jack Vansky and Cowboy Bradley. Ace Freeman and Rudy Miller were there too.

In interviews, Bruno said he really matured as a performer when he worked in Toronto during his time away from NY. He learned a lot from guys like Sweet Daddy Siki, The Wolfman Willie Farkas and other seasoned pro's he worked with.
By the time, NY came a calling he was a more polished performer.

Interesting that he would mention The Wolfman, i remember his last run in WWWF and his skills didn’t look like they transferred to other gimmicks.

Couple of points,Bruno mentions when Toots and Sr. initially brought him to Washington they had work with a couple of veteran wrestlers ,I believe it was Skaaland and Savoldi. Wolfman Willie Farkas is also mentioned by Bruno as helping him to provide real or imagined security for opera singer Franco Corelli. As the singer was going thru an anxiety phase. Finally regarding Bruno, you can't teach strong.

Jack Vansky was another old timer who Bruno did his first matches with.
