I have the strongest personal nostalgia for 1993-1994, because they were my full years watching as a fan.
But in terms of overall quality, 1991-early 1992 and late 1996-1997 were the best years, imo. Ironically, ratings were in the toilet.

I'll go with 1988-1991. House show quality had improved and there were many interesting happenings (especially, 1988).

Not sure if this was the best years financially but I will say 1987 and 1988 just because that's when I first attended TV tapings... So those years are kind of a nostalgia thing to me

I thought we were referring to the early to mid 90s. My favorite year in the WWF was 1980

If in this timeframe:
Mid 1991 - Wrestlemania 8
If overall:
1986 - Wrestlemania 3 is the absolute best period to me. If I could go back and do it again, I would in a second. Just pure excitement waiting for every Saturday morning & forget about it when a SNME was on.
Savage wins IC title, Bulldogs win tag titles, WM2, The Big Event, Orndorff turns on Hogan, Piper returns, Savage / Steamboat feud starts, Harts take straps from Bulldogs / Danny Davis angle, Superstars / Challenge created with state of the art production values & WM3 buildup. Never mind all the new talent coming in 1986.

I'd say 92
Adding RF to the mix brought such an energy
Started with best Rumble all time IMO
Double main event at WM
Culminates with Bret winning the title

Summer of 86 to Summer 87 was an excellent period. Surprising new faces, great angles and variety of matchups made this period very exciting. My favorite period of wrestling as well.

It wouldn't have been in this era. By the 90s I was only following as a casual fan as I was out of high school and working and the product had become way to cartoonish for me.
It was the Attitude Era that brought me back as a full time fan, so I would choose then.

For this era 1992 was the best year as WM8 featured two great matches and Angles: Piper v Hit Man and Flair v Macho. The return of Mr Perfect and debuts of Yokozuna and Razor seemed like an upswing (excluding Hall’s accent) plus it seemed they had more flexibility without Hogan hanging around. For example Savage was great in every angle they placed him in and Bret was coming into his own with outstanding matches with Piper, Bulldog and Micheals on the PPV stage.
The key point the 1992 Rumble was like an MLB All Game filled with future Hall of Famers. Probably the greatest Rumble IMO and set the tone for the next 12 months. But 1986 was by far my fave WWF year of all time.

I'd have to say 93-94 for me too. Although I watched since 1990, it got more regular in 93-94 and I watched everything whereas 90, 91 was probably WWF and 92 was a little more of WCW than WWF. Having so many awesome Hasbro releases 93-94 was really great.
I think 1990 was pretty close to perfect though.

I can see how someone could see it like that. 1992 was quite the transition year. I think it can depend also on when you first started watching. If you started watching in 1990 or 1991, you could have a different perspective on things.
While I started casually watching around 82-83 time frame , always thought WWF hit its stride after WM6. Once the late 80s rolled around , really only watch PTW and big events if possible. Most PTW episodes would ffwd the yawner matches and focused on Gorilla and Heenan , interviews or interesting matches like Hitman-Perfect. Mainly would check out an interview or two on the syndicated shows to see if any live events were worth checking out based on the local promos.
Guess I was a casual fan but started watching more when Flair entered in 1991 as action was getting better.
