After watching the Dark Side of the Ring ep on John Tenta, what did you think of Earthquake? Looking back he was one of the more talented "monster" guys, he was surprisingly agile (maybe not on the level of a Bigelow or a Vader, but he could pull off some surprising moves) and he was able to draw a lot of heat. He kind of started losing his luster around the time of the Natural Disasters though, even though they were somewhat over.

I enjoyed his work.  I liked his All Japan stuff better.  The Natural Disasters were a unique team.

Loved his finisher

A friend of mine administered it on me during a high school theater cast party and tore his sweatpants

Tremendous talent, he knew exactly how to use what he had to perfection. And apparently he was a legit badass too.

I hated his look. He looked like some sweaty, hairy, bald fat guy. However, as I continued to watch him not only his in-ring work but his promos, my respect for him grew to the point where I didn't even pay attention to his look anymore.

As the 90's wore on and I saw the next stupid thing that a booker had Tenta doing, I felt horrible for him. They were all very difficult to watch.

I remember the promo that Dark Side showed, in WCW where he came out and told us his name was John Tenta and he was a man. I was hoping that was the start of a push that would restore this guy to a spot in the business that was worthy of him. But, unfortunately for both him and us the fans, that wasn't to be.

I had never heard that he worked retail or drove a truck. I was saddened to hear that a guy with that much talent and good years left in the business was relegated to doing that. What a waste.

Before DSOTR, and now, when I think of either Tenta or Fred Ott, what comes to mind is this: I've watched dozens upon dozens of shoot interviews. In all those interviews, I have never heard a single ill word toward either Tenta or Ott. The number of guys in the business I can say that about can be counted on both hands. I think that says a lot about what great guys they were and the respect they had earned from their peers.

I hate sports entertainment but I love wrestling. Hence, I don't watch the business any more. :(

I envy those who lived in a territory. I grew up in Tucson, AZ. My "territory" was being a WWF "C" town.

I believe the business fell on its ass in the early 90's because WCW started to copy WWF when it really should have been the other way around.

Awesome guy. A friendly gentle giant. Great worker. Needed more of a push after the Hogan feud.

A feud with Champion Warrior would have been nice.

John and Fred were two perfect guys to be teaming together. Both dedicated family men and as Fred said in the Dark Side, they weren't into the party scene.

It's a shame they were pretty much an afterthought after they lost the tag titles and in the ring they never connected again (not including the gimmick battle royal).

Warrior-Savage
Warrior-Undertaker
Warrior-Earthquake

The WWF booking at the time was disastrous.

I never really cared for Earthquake, I just never really bought him as a monster heel threat after much better monster heels like KK Bundy and Andre.

I think part of it was I just found his look unappealing, with his balding head and long stringy hair he just kinda seemed like another fat guy.

WWF should have developed a better, more intimidating look for him.

I'm now reminded of something that Paul Orndorff said in one of his shoots. This really resonated with me, because I personally have lived what he said...

Orndorff said that no matter where you work or what you do there, regardless of your talent or your potential you can never be more successful than the management wants you to be. That is so true. I'm reminded of Earthquake because, as I said, he had a lot of good years left and a lot of talent. What he was put through his last five years or so in the business was just inexcusable.

I kind of feel bad they he didn't really get that big payday in the mid 90's when everybody was  getting paid. Kind of surprised that WWE never tried pushing Earthquake one more time after Golga ran its course.
